Curbside Recycling Requested for August 18 Agenda and Cardboard Bin Torched
July 8, 2009

Hello everyone,

At last night’s City Council meeting, Katherine Callahan requested that the $5.50 curbside recycling option be added to the last council agenda in August. With this option, a minimum of 500 households in Mustang must sign up for the service, which will accept everything the Recycling Center currently takes, as well as plastics #3-7.

If the Council approves the $5.50 curbside recycling option, Mustang Recycles will be promoting it at Western Days.

There are 6,500 residential garbage customers in Mustang. In order to have this curbside recycling program, at least 500 households must sign up. That is only 8% of all those accounts.

I feel we stand a good chance of getting that many households to sign up. About 450 Mustang households use the recycling center. Many more have said they would pay for the convenience of curbside recycling. If the City Council approves this option, Mustang residents can begin signing up.

One of our cardboard recycling bins was set on fire over the Fourth of July weekend. The sides of the bin were warped, the lid melted completely, and the bin is unusable. This leaves the Center with only four usable cardboard bins.

Thank you,
