Greetings Mustang,
According to the Oklahoma Enviromental Management Authority (OEMA),
the City of Mustang sent 3,404 cubic yards of waste to their landfill
for the month of June 2006. OEMA charges Mustang's garbage collection
service, IESI, $5.25 per cubic yard. So the cost of disposes all
this waste just for the month of June was $17,871.
If a city recycling program was able to divert even 10% from
the landfill the monthly savings would be $1,787.
Once the recyclable materials are collected, they need only be
transported to the Midlands Recycling facility in Oklahoma City
(1432 W Main St Oklahoma City, OK 73106) which would pay for the
materials.
Below is the rate that the City of Norman contracted for. These
rates are implemented in 48-60 month contracts. As such Mustang
may be able to obtain similar rates.
Plastics #1 & #2 (co-mingled)...$.04 per pound.
Newspaper... $55.00 per ton
Cardboard... $80.00 per ton
Tin or steel cans... $5.00 per ton
Glass...(separated) $5.00 per ton clear, $2.00 brown &
green
Aluminum Cans...(super clean) $.70 per pound |
