Resolution of Support Passed
August 15, 2006

August 15th’s Mustang City Council meeting went very well. The Resolution of Support passed unanimously and the City Manager read the city’s own report on possible recycling programs.

The City Manager indicated that he has enough discretionary funds that he would be able to lease at least one recycling trailer and pay for a couple pulls per month… if we are able to sign up enough volunteers to staff it.

So if you are able and willing to assist Mustang residents sort recyclable materials and educate them about what can and can not be recycled, please let me know. Only if we have enough volunteers can we move forward.

The city’s recycling report indicated that for $2 per household we can probably have curbside pickup of recyclable materials. The city will very soon send out a recycling survey to gage the level of interest for each type of recycling program. If there is enough demand for curbside recycling, it may be best to skip the drop off location. However, I still need volunteers ready in case we cannot be curbside immediately.

Also the Mustang News recycling poll closed today with 95% (36 votes) in favor of recycling.

I want to thank everyone for voting in the poll and expressing your interest to the city leaders. Please sign up to assist at the recycling center if the curbside program is not possible. Only with enough volunteers can I meet with the City Manager to start a program.

Thank you,

Brian Figgins

PS: The City Council will soon be considering requiring home builders to have one tree in the front yard of new homes in Mustang. Please let them know what you think.
