| Andy and Eric are very helpful in reinstalling an ailing PC from scratch. | |
| Mon 29th | Eric and Anneke come to stay |
| Sat 27th | Celebrated our twenty-third wedding anniversary by volunteering at the Desert Botanical Garden Luminarias. Took refreshments around to the various artists performing in the candlelit evening trails. Possibly our favourite was the handbell choir. |
| Fri 26th | Boxing
Day. A light lunch outside on the patio followed by a dip in the hot
tub.
For dinner barbecued buffalo steak with roast potatoes and parsnips, peperonata and best of all a scrumptious Christmas Pudding hand carried from England by Andy and with some of the finest custard Emma has ever made. Yum. Watched my christmas present from Emma, Pirates of the Caribbean

September 2003
| Sun 21st | Last day of the Noh
costume exhibit at the Phoenix Art Museum. Esther had three of her
young students play a few pieces for the museum's Family Sunday and
let kids have some hands-on the drums. One of the players was Peter
who we haven't seen in ages because he and his mother, Joanne have
only been able to attend Wednesday classes, while we go to Tuesday and
Thursday. Joanne and I persuaded Esther to let us do Buchi Awase with
them, which we performed very creditably.
Came home and did the UK 2003 tax forms. Oh joy. We would have submitted them online but found out that once you register you have to wait for a snail-mail hardcopy "activation PIN." The pool was a bit fresh this morning, 27.5C. |
| Sat 20th | JD and Lucya were handfasted |
August 2003
| 22nd | Hein
and Ingeborg were married |
May 2003
| Sun 16th | Quiet tired day at home. Booked flights to the Taiko Conference and ordered upgrades for Emma's PC so that they arrive just before she goes away. Chatted to Anna and Giulia in the morning and had a swim. The pool was up to 32C even before lunch! The garden is now looking particularly full, green and colourful. |
| Sat 17th | Hands severely
blistered and scraped from playing Taiko and Chappa for two hours in
the evening to encourage runners raising money for the Scottsdale
Center For The Arts. I know that is not how you spell "centre"
but that is its name.
Did not play at all well. Kept getting distracted by runners waving. However on the way home in the car, it came to me that it did not really matter as I had experienced something a bit special. What we did was much closer to the original spirit of Taiko than putting on a stage performance. I am not saying that playing poorly does not dismay me or that I don't want to put on a polished performance, but this was different. This was booming out the village drums to advertise, encourage and celebrate. I saw one guy walking along in the distance. He heard the drums and started to run again. People would come past us tiredly and then grin and wave as the sound of the drums washed over them. And you could hear a single drum half a mile away. I wonder how far it carried when we played all five in synch? Five? Oh yes. After dark, when no one could see, Emma hid in the middle of us and thundered along with the rest of us... |
| Fri 16th | Temperature finally
touched 100F/38.5C. Work organized a strangely fun team building
afternoon at a water park in a nearby resort hotel. Factor 45 sun
block and I still have tan lines :) Standing around in soaking
wet t-shirt and shorts felt very nice. Splashed about in the water a
lot, even built a team boat.
Fue class a bit sad as I had not practiced. |
| Wed 14th | Got paffed a lot for
watching the episode of Enterprise where T'Pol suffers an untimely Pon
Farr while locked in a steamy isolation ward with Doctor Phlox.
Had lunch with Emma and Mark Rand, a close colleague from Honeywell UK visiting on business. Wonderful to talk about home and abroad and holidays. Reached 38C/99F yesterday. Fortunately Mark brought a few British clouds with him so it didn't reach a hundred today. Can't last much longer though. Have started using fans and air-conditioning. |
| Sun 11th | Second session of Jen's Amber campaign with Troy and Heidi. Our unsuspecting 19th century heroes begin traversing the worlds, coping with inflation, horseless carriages and naked navels before being silenced by The Wild Hunt and arriving at an imposing castle. |
| Sat 10th | Emma dragged me out
shopping for trousers since it is threatening to get hot and I'm
finding that a couple of pairs from last year just aren't fit to be
seen in. This also resulted in a little mild shopping for Emma. Well,
they were just what she wanted and the price was ridiculously low. So
to pre-celebrate Emma's Saint's Day on Tuesday, we blew the savings on
a DVD of "Don Giovanni", one of Emma's favourite operas
starring her favourite singer Ruggiero Raimondi.
But first we went and had lunch at the Coronado Cafe at the corner of Monte Vista and 7th St downtown Phoenix. We drive past this place every time we go to Taiko class just north of Monte Vista between 10th and 11th). Emma took Marzia and Stefano there and enjoyed it. Now I have too. Excellent simple food and very friendly, competent service in a wonderful "at home" sort of atmosphere. The streets there are wonderful too. Full of small houses in quiet, narrow streets with really well developed gardens featuring lots of mature palm trees. It is also very close to the Heard which is only a mile from Esther's Taiko dojo. Emma was taking me to the museum to see a firing of pottery. It turned out it was a shaping and painting which was still interesting and we used up some more time taking in the new glass exhibit and the exhibit on the ceramics of Maria Martinez of Santa Clara pueblo. Replete with beauty I was dragged to my trousery doom and an inevitable showdown with back ache. Ah well. Revisited the first X-Men movie. Still very good. Discovered that Belgian Chocolate Rum cake tastes even better with Belgian Chocolate, Choc-Chip and Rum and Raisin Ice Cream over it :-) |
| Thu 8th | Can't believe it's still below 100F. A beautiful 28C today. People said nice things about Emma. It seems they had a nice time at the Spring Luncheon. Emma relaxed by shopping for food and finding delicious European out-of-season treats massively discounted in Costco World Market. Belgian Rum Chocolate cake and French flourless almond cake. Yum. |
| Wed 7th | Heard Museum Guild (Volunteers) Spring Luncheon. Emma chaired the organizing committee! |
| Mon 5th | Eyes very sore. Had to use soothing drops. |
| Sun 4th | Lots of time at the computer printing things for Emma. Wrote up game log for Jen's FTF Myriads game from last week. |
| Sat 3rd | Very dusty wind got in my eyes in the garden. |
| Fri 2nd | First Fue leson
(bamboo flute). Apparently I have a naturally good embrassure! Learned
five whole notes!
Saw X-Men 2 which was very good, especially Magneto's "Mandor Moment" for Amber afficionados. Dashing from fue class meant we were seated right down at the front which leads to an overpowering and distorted view as the screen fills your field of vision and is at an angle. |
April 2003
| Sun 27th | Arizona Asian Festival, Patriots Park, Phoenix. Phoenix Taiko Kai (Esther's students
group) performed in public! (Photos by
Emma) Buchiawase, Yagi Bushi, Taiko
Bayashi, Ogi Matsuri and Zoku. And we did quite well. In fact in
places we were downright cool. We got through all the pieces with only
minor uncertainties of individuals in different places. That includes
me. When I'm super confident of what I'm doing I like to do the form
really well, but there were places in several songs where I missed a
beat or got the hands slightly wrong, but I never lost the rhythm in
my head and so was able to join right back in and smile about it. The
curse of Buchiawase is lifted at last. Me, Beth and Carie made a real
pig's ear of this before, but this time it was smokin'! Maybe because
we were playing with other people too :-) Yagi Bushi went fine even if
I missed a beat or two including the last ones when we are going as
fast as we can. I just hurried up and stuck my hands up with everyone
else. I finally did Ogi Matsuri reasonably well. Very cool poses in
Ogi and I remembered the line that's been bugging me. My hands were
just slightly behind at one point. When that happens I stop hitting so
that at least it's not distracting. Then I come back in when I'm back
in synch. I think I was most disappointed with Zoku. It's my favourite
piece and when everybody's in the groove it is completely joyous. We
did it well but I missed several beats. It was the last piece and we
were tired and very hot (92 F, 33 C). Emma not only took still photos
but also video using Beth's camera. If we can borrow the camera I'd
like to copy it onto PAL video to send to the family.
Sabakurai, Desert Thunder, 'The Buddhist Ladies' (TM), Tony's students did a set after us and were really sharp. THEY got loud applause! I heard them doing "Silk" and I saw them doing a cool original up-drum piece called "Torai" which means arriving. They had wonderful choreography. Emma didn't catch this because the heat and sun was making her feel quite unwell so she headed for the shade of the Fushicho Daiko booth. Loaded, delivered and unloaded the drums back to the dojo before retiring 'tired but happy'. Couldn't bear to wait two days for the photos so splurged on one hour developing :-) When we arrived home the pool was soooo inviting and restorative (34 C). Finally able to go in without flinching! |
| Sat 26th | Arizona Asian Arts
Festival, Patriots Park, Phoenix. Watched Fushicho Daiko perform.
Esther, Heidi and Eileen did a good set which was impressive
considering Esther's RSI problem with her arm is not resolved and
Eileen was actually feeling sick. They were short of Tony who was
already committed to something in Sedona.
We started an Amber campaign game at our place in the evening! We had huge fun with Troy and Heidi, GM'd by Jeni. I'm hoping to write up a game log. |
| Fri 25th | Flew back from New
Jersey. Did a final Taiko rehearsal for the Asian Arts gig. It went
very well. We actually moved the drums as we will have to on stage.
People said very nice things about the diagrams I had prepared to show
who was doing what, when and where. They said it had been helpful
while I was away. If I could play as well as some of them, I wouldn't
need to obsess about these extras! This is the culmination of three or
four weeks of practicing every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Received our Tax Refund! |
| Mon 21st | Flew to New Jersey for meetings on a new project. Struggled with the three hour time difference. Waking up at 3 AM body time was tough. |
| Sun 20th | Easter Sunday. We were invited to dinner by Ruth Pagett one of Emma's colleagues in the Heard Museum Guild of Volunteers. |
| Sat 19th | We had our party! A nice time was had by all over a few snacks, salads, wings, pie and ice-cream. Discovered that Fats Waller was incredibly popular. I did not start it but we wound up watching the whole of the KODO Acropolis DVD. Much enjoyed talking to everyone away from the drums and to chatting to Tony and Heidi quite a lot towards the end, meeting Carolyn's partner, Skip and seing Troy and Petra enthuse about the house they are planning to buy. Their daughters got on really well with Eileen's children and naturally insisted on trying out not only our pool but also our drum quite extensively. |
| Sun 13th | ? |
| Sat 12th | Filed our Tax forms! Yay! |
| Sun 6th | ? |
| Sat 5th | ? |
March 2003
| Sun 16th | Sloow day. Tired after last two late nights. It rained some more which is much appreciated. Just to get out of the house we went and bought some nice bread. Also a glass top for our drum to protect it from having things put on it by unsuspecting guests. |
| Sat 15th | At last a restful day at home which we both needed. We popped out briefly to buy a cheap watch for me since my last one had died. I habitually wear thin light cheap waterproof digital watches with an alarm and a light so that I can see them at night and not worry about them while travelling, showering or swimming. Usually the plastic strap dies after two years. This is about the fourth one. Also took a little postcard sized picture by Joe Maktima to be framed. Then Jennifer (Jen? Jeni? Jenna?) Decker came round to help play-test Emma's new Amber game, 'Forgive and Forget' for Ambercon US. Jen had her new puppy, Kagan with her, a very sweet natured Staffordshire terrier/??? heeler cross, who is well on the way to being trained. Troy also was able to join us after fixing his broken water heater. Jen plans to start a regular Amber game. Yay! Troy may even read Zelazny's Amber books. He thought they were out of print, but we pointed out the 'Great Book of Amber' (all ten novels) was released last year. |
| Fri 14th | Emma hurtled out eagerly to the Desert Botanical Gardens spring plant sale. I came home to find many new agaves and a cheerful Emma. Watched one of the sumo tapes we bought at Matsuri. Akebono was a Yokozuna, Kyokudozan and Konishki were still competing. Wakanohana was beginning his rise to fame. Just couldn't get to sleep. |
| Thu 13th | The pool was over 28C today (83F). Temperatures have been touching 30C lately, but should drop with the forecast rain over the weekend. |
| Wed 12th | Another light Taiko class with Carolyn. Reprised Buchi Awase and Carolyn found that Eichan's coffee-ice-cream-crisps-coke rhythm fitted the solo perfectly. Signed up for the 2003 Taiko Conference 1-3rd August in Sacramento. Esther kept suggesting and it does sound good. In the last eight days I've drummed for 19 hours. |
| Tue 11th | Monthly review presentation with completely new metrics. Nerve wracking but successful. Came home and slept. Woke up. Emma took me to a very gentle Taiko class just with Beth. Esther started teaching us a three part piece that was very soothing. Then collapsed for a decent night's sleep. |
| Mon 10th | Physical exhaustion and Korean food don't mix. I felt under the weather all day and hardly slept at all. Hot and shivery. |
| Sun 9th | Slooow awakening. Voice hoarse from "primal ape" kakegoi (shouting, kiai) of the previous day. Murray drives again to Tucson for another four hours of tort... er... fun :-) More practice of yesterday's wisdom. Another stunning Odaiko solo from the master (though she claimed she was severely off form). In the Korean restaurant afterwards (Karen F is half Korean) discover Tiffany used to play RPG's until about ten years ago. Judging by the avidity with which she received a couple of character anecdotes (Emma's Captain Kirk samurai and the Countess single-handedly delaying an entire Mexican army corps) she remembers it fondly. Discovered she also has enjoyed playing Diablo-2! Maybe one day... |
| Sat 8th | Up horribly early to
drive to Tucson for two four-hour workshops with Tiffany
Tamaribuchi organized by Odaiko Sonora. Apart from having won the
All-Japan Odaiko championship last August (first non-Japanese and first
woman) and being involved with three Taiko groups in California she is
a great teacher. She is (naturally) full of passion for her subject,
but also full of levity, wit and respect. She has a remarkable knack
of clarifying what she is trying to explain. I learned excellent new
ways to hold bachi (drumsticks), a smoother and less tiring way of
getting a big dynamic sound, though I think it's going to take me a
while to get the proper arm position overhead. Relax. Relax!
RELAX!!! Arm hurts. Had a nice dinner at the Yamato restaurant (the owner, Mari Kaneta, is leader of the local Japanese traditional dance group). Green tea mochi ice-cream! |
| Tue 4th | Fabulous Taiko workshop led by Kodo's Eichi Saito . The man is pure magic. A whole evening of how to have fun and integrate into a group. Finished up with a rhythm based on the phrases "coffee with milk", ice-cream", "potato chips", "coca cola" as pronounced in Japanese. |
| Sun 2nd | Emma at the Heard again. |
| Sat 1st | Helped out with the artist hospitality at the Heard's fair where they invite over five hundred artists to compete and offer their work for sale. Succumbed to a little picture by Joe Maktima. |
February 2003
| Fri 28th | Emma had a lot of fun helping at the Heard Museum's annual Indian fair and market. She was setting up hospitality for the weekend and guarding the judged exhibits during the dinner and competition. So naturally she was able to see all the best work at the show. |
| Sun 23rd | Briefly dashed up to downtown Phoenix to help Esther with the drums for their performance at Matsuri. Wound up holding the video camera to record them. First time I've used a videocam. Missed the first number because I didn't realize it was push once to start recording and push once to stop. Hope the rest came out all right. Saw Odaiko Sonora's new little drum. Very nice. Finished 'Jeeves & Wooster' 4th season disk one. |
| Sat 22nd | Went to Matsuri in
Heritage Square, downtown Phoenix. Hated working out where the parking
was. Enjoyed a sushi lunch and hot sweet pancakes filled with red
azuki bean paste. Ogled antique kimono but resisted. Succumbed to a
print of a simple ink drawing of bamboo. Enjoyed Fushicho Daiko's
taiko performance.
Surprisingly enjoyed the Californian Sumo demo. They use 'International Sumo' rules rather than the professional Japanese ones. Their ring etiquette was sadly lacking but their technique wasn't bad for amateurs. Only two of them were huge (260 lbs/180kg/18.5 stone) and only one of those was not particularly muscular. In general they seemed quite fit and endearingly enthusiastic. The USA ladies lightweight champion at a hundred and five pounds (less than 48 kilos/7.5 stone i.e. smaller than Emma) and clad in a scoop necked leotard was very fetching :-) While game and with quite good technique she just could not prevail against the ladies heavyweight champion at a fit and muscular if slightly chunky 170 lbs (77kg/12 stone i.e. just a bit heavier than Murray). They did the usual Jungyo (provincial tour) stunts; technique demos and explanations, comic pre-arranged bouts and hilarious contests against kids which they almost always let the kids win. They did let one twenty year old idiot in the ring and trounced him easily making him look a complete fool, which was all he deserved. The only unattractive thing, apart from the lack of polite bowing, was that they all wore cycling shorts under the mawashi (loincloth) 'in case', which I think just proves they don't know how to tie it properly (or that American audiences are just to too prudish). Mind you, I'm not sure what else the ladies would do.
All the sumo made us get out and watch an old Sumo tape from the 1990 Aki Basho. Lyall Watson was a stunning commentator. |
| Fri 21st | Hectic. House valuation for refinance in the morning. Dentist and Chiropractor in the afternoon. Watched Tom Cruise film 'Minority Report' in the evening. Enjoyed it a lot and guessed it was a Philip K Dick story without having been told. Very 'Bladerunner'. |
| Tue 18th | Taiko lesson |
| Sun 16th | Gammage auditorium,
Tempe. Fushicho Daiko were entertaining the sponsors before the
Kodo
evening show. We helped them set up since this meant carrying all
their gear up three floors because the lifts were out of order. Esther
then got us in to the Kodo rehearsal. Having fast film I managed to
take some without flash during the rehearsal.
Walked into Tempe and had dinner with Beth another regular Taiko student. Not only did this mean we were able to try the RA Japanese restaurant but we could also talk without taking time out of a lesson. We shared crabcakes, beef terriyaki and potstickers and interesting deserts; cinnamon ice-cream tempura, coconut creme brulee and apple ginger vanilla custard crisps. |
| Sat 15th | Emma up early and
joined the Heard Museum volunteers trip to the Gem & Mineral show
in Tucson. Murray up later and went to Tucson to help Karen, Rome,
Robin and Isaac work on drums, stands and bachi (drumsticks). Emma showed me around the Minerals show. Dinner at Pei Wei. Helped Rome with information stand for Odaiko Sonora then went to see them perform and talk about Taiko. Then went to see Kodo perform. Their precision and unity is awe-inspiring. The set they performed was very traditionally Japanese. There were less of the world music influences. |
| Sun 9th | |
| Sat 8th | Went to see the Daredevil movie. Enjoyed it a great deal, despite the differences from the comics. In fact Emma did a nice analysis that shows they turned things around in many ways. The comic book character starts off as a nice guy and always uses his powers to make sure the system catches up with the bad guy. The Kingpin and Bullseye in Frank Miller's issues pushed DD to the edge of murder, something previously unthinkable. The film, contrariwise, has DD start out as pretty scary and lethal but is redeemed by his confrontation with the Kingpin which makes him never want to appear as 'the bad guy' to small children. They managed to include lots of classic Daredevil imagery. The grim, unhappy, unshaven Matt Murdock was well done. I liked Ben Affleck's Matt Murdock, though the critics panned it. The flirtation with Elektra was brilliant. The banter with Foggy Nelson was nice. That was another turn around since Foggy was killed a long time ago in the comics. The special effects for DD's radar-sense sonar vision were beautifully done. The concept that he could only really see Elektra in the rain as the sound from the drops hitting her face created an image for him was beautiful... and not one I remember from the comics. |
| Sun 2nd | Had to do some phone
work, but most of the day was talking to M&S and playing an
introductory game of Legend Of The Five Rings. Which was wonderful. It
was so nice to play again and the Japanese background brought back a
huge amount of the great Bushido days with Graham. I got to play a
lightning fast young duellist and Emma a dragon-mage. Yay! The pool reached 32C. So we were able to offer the obligatory dip. We spent a decadent hour or so in the water, mostly still playing LOTFR. |
| Sat 1st | Work! Marzia and Stefano returned from a tour of the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bluff, Mesa Verde, Durango, Canyon de Chelly, the Petrified Forest etc. |
| Fri 31st | Started warming up the swimming pool for Marzia and Stefano. Found that the valve was set to bypass the heating! The heater overheated and shut itself off automatically. This did have the effect of softening a rubber seal which had started leaking and the problem has resolved itself. |
January 2003

'Preacher' Lanticina, 'Stone Cold' Possenti, 'Fancy'
Sansone and 'Farmer' Writtle
| Sun 26th | Tombstone and the Kartchner Caverns |
| Sat 25th |
Sonoran Desert Museum Taiko Workshop led by Esther at Odaiko Sonora Stayed at La Quinta. Emma crashed out. Ate at Gentle Ben's Brewery, listened to 'Traveler', a Greek rock fiddle band. |
| Sun 19th | Marzia & Stefano arrived |
| Sat 18th | Another Taiko workshop, this one taught by Eileen Morgan. |
| Fri 17th | Our drum arrived! |
| Sun 12th | Quiet day at home.
Finished painting the first coat of black on the "beam"
around the edge of the dining room ceiling. Gave the centre a second
coat of pale turquoise. It makes a big impact on the room. Gulp.
Spoke on the phone with Marzia and Stefano to plan what to do during their visit. Switched the solar heating for the pool on to see how warm it can get before they arrive. Maybe we can get it to the point where we can boost it to swimmable with the gas heating for a couple of days? Keep fingers crossed. |
| Sat 11th | Got up late and slow
despite yesterday's nap. Went to Tucson for lunch and to explore a
bit. The 4th Avenue shopping zone is very pleasant and unlike the
upscale areas in Scottsdale and Chandler is actually affordable, if
there is stuff you happen to want, like a Mexican plate to hang in the
kitchen. It was a place for real people not just adverts. It was a
lovely day, sunny and the the temperature started off needing a
sweater in the shade but nudged up to being better without one by the
time we'd finished lunch at Bison Witches, which serves great
sandwiches and soups. Well soup seemed safest.
Having passed a pleasant couple of hours we arrived in time for our real reason, a Taiko workshop, by our sensei, Esther, at the dojo of Taiko Sonora, some of whose players came to workshops in Phoenix before Christmas. It was a beginners workshop but learning a different song. It was a very cheerful affair. It was nice sharing a meal afterwards with Rome and Karen from Tucson and with Esther and Beth. Received an email from Taiko Masala that our drum has been shipped. The fedex tracking shows that it left New York at 17:30 yesterday and arrived at a New Jersey sorting office an hour later. It left there at 20:30 today. No sign of the Eddie Izzard video yet. |
| Fri 10th | Finally visited a
dentist for treatment. I need a lot of work. This was the first part
of a thorough cleaning to treat gum disease. I thought I was okay with
it but I was sweating buckets when it started, despite the fact the
motherly hygienist was very nice. The cleaning was very deep and may
in fact require follow up surgery to actually get at the deepest
parts. I was very thoroughly anaesthetised, which in itself was a
painful process, but in its own way that was another part of the
problem. As it wore off it tingled like anything and the cleaned gums
were very tender. I hoped it would calm down in an hour or so, but no
luck. I ended up taking some ordinary painkillers (as suggested) and
then I slept for about three hours in the afternoon, which for me is
very odd. I have to go back next Friday. I hope it's less traumatic.
Over dinner watched "The 13th Warrior". Beautifully shot, interesting character ideas, very spooky intro to the evil. Ultimately not a transcendent film because it does not delve into the characters enough and the bad guys are not consistent with the setting and not explained well enough to get away with it. A "must see" for anyone interested in Vikings. Emma thought most of them were very handsome too. During the week Emma has painted the downstairs hall/corridor white with terracotta arches and one turquoise arch/wall. With the pictures back up it now looks very cool and modern, if you like that sort of thing. Gulp. |
| Sun 5th | Actually started the Dining Room! Painted the ceiling centre the same pale blue-green as upstairs. Masked and painted the border of the "beam" in black. Well actually they don't sell plain black paint. They sell several different shades of black. We picked one called "Oil Shale". Scary. A very courageous decision Prime Minister. Also played Diablo2 with Graham and John. Helped John's sorceress get past Andariel in Hell and got as far as Radamant together. While I was filling in the ceiling Emma taped and edged the to-be-white area in the downstairs hall. Isn't it amazing what the thought of upcoming visitors can help you accomplish. Also decided we wanted to do some Taiko sessions on the next weekends so would have less time if we didn't get a move on. |
| Sat 4th | Painted two more pillars of terracotta in the bedroom and gave a second coat to some of the suspicious previous bits. Only one wall left to go! Shame it's behind a hulking great wardrobe. Went out for a break and to buy the black paint for the dining room. Found great little lights for niches, just cans that point upwards and only $7 each. Wrote up a scene for Peregrine in Sarah's game. Played a bit of Diablo2 together |
| Fri 3rd | Spoke to Esther about
the Taiko for sale. She had actually received the drums she
bought from the same source and was very happy with them.
![]() She thought the 21" Hiradaiko would be fine used on a down stand for practice as well as suspended vertically as it is supposed to be used. So I went ahead and bought it far cheaper than anything else we might find. |
| Wed 1st | Feels like we've achieved a huge amount in the last few days after our wonderful Christmas in Portland. Put up towel rail in utility room. Took down blinds and finished masking bedroom bay window. Painted it white. Put back blinds. Drilled holes in the pine boards I bought ages ago to make additional Saku shelving next to the couch in the living room. Sanded them with a fine orbital sander I also bought ages ago for the very purpose. The wood came up extremely smooth. Emma should be able to varnish it a treat. Assembled it to check the sizing and left it loaded with books to straighten out some slight warping. Had the comedy channel "improv-a-thon" on in the background all day showing reruns of the real British "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Hilarious, but don't need to see any more for quite a while! Finished "Jeeves and Wooster" season three rented DVD. |
