Heath Butler Hi my name is Heath Butler and I had the Ross Procedure done three weeks ago and I would like to tell you my story. I am 15 years old and I finally have a normal heart. When they first told me that I had to have this done I didn't think much of it. I wasn't scared, I was more curious and interested than anything. I dont really remember much about before the operation but I can share with you the things I do remember from after the procedure. When I woke up in intensive care I kind of got nervous and worried. That was my mistake, after I had calmed down things got alot easier. That is the most important thing. You must stay calm. I cannot lie, there is pain and discomfort after but that is normal. After I got my own room and they took most of the wires out of me, non of which hurt, I was doing pretty good They took the dressing off of my incision 4 days after surgery. I would have been out of the hospital sooner if I would have gotten up and walked around more. Yeah, I know, that seems drastic for open heart surgery but that is the key to getting better. Another thing is you must eat. You might not feel like eating but you have to, to get energy. After I was out of the hospital things got alot better, I was in my own home, in my own bed and surroundings that I was familiar with. Even though I was at home I still had to keep moving. Even though I didnt feel up to it all the time I would still just walk up the steps once or twice. I was pushed to do that, I admit, but it helped. Do not let people push you to where you cant do anything. This surgery affects everyone differently. People might give you examples on how all these people told them that you have to do this and you have to do that to get better but you can only do what you can do, they might have not felt what you feel. All I can say is you have to keep moving and think positive into the future and tell yourself that you ARE going to get better. Good Luck and think positive. If you have any questions or comments email me at motleyfool6@yahoo.com, I will be glad to answer them.
