Nathan

It seems fitting that responsible men of good will should try to create some text which outlines the mission of their life on Earth as they see it. My mission statement below is not only a reflection of my desire to come to terms with the reason for my existence, but also a reflection that my existence is in a very real world that is not perfect and can often be uncertain.

I, Nathaniel O'Connor, of free mind and body, hereby proclaim that the following points are constitutive elements of my mission in life on this Earth. In the first place, I make it my mission to Glorify God, my Creator. By His grace, I have come to faith in His Providence and Divine Majesty. My glorification of God involves the development of knowledge concerning the teachings of Jesus Christ, His Son, whose precious blood has made it possible for me to be saved, and of His Church. I will serve Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News of His resurrection through my actions, my words, my thoughts, and my will.

Secondly, I make it my mission to be a servant of humanity and the common good. I endeavor to serve my family by being a responsible and productive member and by advancing my family name in new arenas, be this socially, academically, or politically. Here, my primary task shall be to provide for the preservation of familial unity, which is of the utmost importance to me. I desire to enrich the lives of my family members through sharing with them the knowledge and experience I have gained.

I endeavor also to serve my friends by being loyal in mind and words to their various causes, and by assisting them as best I can towards the fulfillment of their dreams.

I endeavor to serve my country, my home, the United States of America, that great state so righteously endowed with freedom and awesome beauty. I will serve my country by being intellectually true to its most guarded precepts - I will pursue happiness in my life and be ever mindful of the liberty I enjoy as one of its citizens. As a patriot, I will take up arms in the defense of my country if I am asked to do so, or if I am otherwise disposed to do so. I will serve my country by being a civicly responsible citizen. This involves the observance of federal, state, and local law, the paying of taxes, and active participation in the construction of government (i.e. voting).

I will serve my colleagues and my profession by always seeking to advance my field of study, and by actively advocating the development of a responsible yet fun working culture.

Finally, I endeavor to live my life as an example for my future children to follow. I will handle myself responsibly and live confidently and bravely. I will maintain an open-minded approach to new ideas and new learning, and I will openly embrace the unfamiliar with charity. I shall endeavor always to seek righteousness first in other people, and to be personally accountable for my actions. Finally in all things, I will earnestly seek and contend for truth.
