Of all my friends from far and wide, Sinem Kamiloglu is my closest counselor and most trusted advocate. Sinem was born in the coastal town of Mersin in Turkiye, on the Mediterranean Sea.
I met Sinem in August of 1999 when we were neighbors in Chicago during the first year of our MBA studies at Loyola University Chicago. We became close friends very quickly and soon we were in a long-term relationship, which ended amicably in October 2003. In August of 2001, Sinem returned to Turkey to complete her work obligation in her home country, but we have remained in close contact and visit with each other periodically.
Sinem is a very special person, and anyone that meets her is quickly drawn to her kind heart,
patient smile, and intelligence. In her home country, Turkey, she works in the Turkish Central Bank, which is
like the U.S. Federal Reserve in Washington D.C. I have had the pleasure of sharing several memorable experiences
and travels with Sinem, both in Chicago and around the United States. We have traveled together in:
Nashville, New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, St. Louis, Washington D.C., Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Louisville, Phoenix, and several
other destinations in the United States.
In our years of friendship, Sinem has had - and continues to have - an enormous impact on my life. From the beginning of our friendship, she has always sought to develop the potential that she saw in me. Sinem has given me excellent advice about finances, family matters, dating and relationships, and other issues. I have come to rely on her to provide balanced and thoughtful commentary on any issue that I am faced with. In more than one instance, her counsel or support has been the key element in my successful navigation of a difficult situation. She has helped me develop numerous interpersonal-relationship and communication skills, and to this day I feel that I am an excellent communicator, both verbally and non-verbally.
Sinem is also an excellent listener, and allows me to be a counselor for her as well. Over many years, I have seen her grow as an individual. We share a close friendship and I hope that we always will.
