What I Do

Ok, Ok, Ok, so you made it through the "Introducing Me" section, and now you're looking for a little bit more about what exactly it is that I do for a living. For many people, this would entail a lengthy description of their "career calling" in life… that is… the private sector work that they do. But I'm different, I suppose. The work that I did over the past 3 years while living in Chicago was a great learning experience for me, but I'd say it's different from the norm because it was been mostly stress-free. I hope that that doesn't bother some people. It is a free country, and we are required to mete out our existence and work as we see fit. Although I haven't had to deal too much with stress in the workplace, I can relate somewhat to the challenge of maintaining a ¾ time job with balancing a full time course load.

When I lived in Chicago, I was a graduate scholar in the Loyola Graduate School of Business and worked 30 hours per week for the school. If you are really interested in specifically the kinds of things that I worked on at Loyola while in the office, here is a listing of most of my responsibilities. It was a lot of work and could get very hectic sometimes, but overall it was a great experience. As an academic advisor to graduate students on curriculum issues, I had the opportunity to meet several students from Loyola and make several great friends.

I also worked for 8 months at the Loyola Family Business Center, which was a good experience and was more of a private sector type job, involving extensive communication with outside companies and individuals and sales.

That's basically it… Working for Loyola part time and being a graduate scholar has gotten me through school and paid most of my bills.

Work is a blessing, and after doctoral studies at the University of Arizona I hope to work in academia, teaching and doing research in finance. I'm sure that consulting jobs and books will come along as well, and I'll review my involvement in those projects case by case, as others do also. While at the University of Arizona, I will be operating on an assistantship offered to me by the university which will fund my tuition and some living expenses.
