I found this receiver at the 2000 Dothan, AL, hamfest . As you can tell, it had seen better days!

Hammarlund used quality switches, capacitors, and resistors in their receivers, which usually do not require wholesale replacement with 'orange drop' capacitors and other components.

This receiver was typical. It needed a lot of cleaning and alignment. Here is the 'finished' product!

The unique feature of the Hammarlund HQ-170 and HQ-180 receivers is the ability to receive either the upper or lower sideband of an AM carrier. This is a great aid in reception when the interference level gets high in the 'AM window.'
