The Nicad Health Maintenance System
A circuit for charging and discharging to condition Nicad batteries. Deep discharging (to a controlled voltage) is useful from time to time to be able to obtain the maximum capacity from Nicads. It reduces the so called Memory Effect.

Penny Pincher's Digital Ammeter
To monitor current use on my sailboat I built this inexpensive but accurate digital ammeter. Using a wire as low value resistor the digital readout could display currents from 0.1amp up to 100.0 amps. I could tell how many lights were on and if some had higher wattage bulbs than others and I could also monitor the charging current of my high output alternator.

Mega-Mini Micropower Timeout Switch
State of the art technology allows an ultra small shut down timer to fit inside
the battery compartment of a DVM. Extends the life of your expensive 9 volt DWM battery. The comparator is 'really cool" very high input resistance, almost no current demand. This is one of my favorite projects just because the technology involved is so advanced.

SMT-You Can do it Part 1
How and why Amateurs should learn to work with Surface Mount IC's. Some non SM starters plus Project 1. If you haven't tried building with SM IC's you are missing a lot of possible projects! The picture shows a project I made with regular through hole parts but I use my SM board making technique, described in the article to make the board. You can read the article at the ARRL web site.
