Our History:

The National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs began in 1896, but Arizona clubs organized in 1915 in Phoenix, Arizona with a handful of determined African American women.  By the following year, they had proudly joined the NACWC.  Tucson Clubs did not form until 1935, but they proved to be the most enduring, with one surviving continuously to this very day.  In contemporary times,  we are rebuilding on their foundation, continuing with the national motto “Lifting as We Climb” and the state motto “Rowing Not Drifting.”

Our activities range from  panel discussions of media stereotypes to community leadership recognition awards.  Our overall objectives are to “promote interracial understanding, justice and peace among all people…(and) the education of women and youth through local, state, and regional workshops, seminars and scholarship assistance.”

Our numbers are small but we have a long, proud tradition of community service.
