The Farm

Although there are many small urban communities in Nebraska, much of the rural landscape is populated by farms which produce primarily meat and grains.

This photo was taken in western Iowa where the tallgrass prairie landscape and weather conditions are the same as eastern Nebraska.

Typically, trees are planted around the home and barn to protect from the winds.

They raise grain and beef cattle on this farm for their livelihood. Around the house are flower and vegetable gardens and fruit trees, as well as larger trees that protect from the wind.

The tall blue and brick towers near the barn are silos containing grain.
