Directions:

Bring to a boil to dissolve. Allow it to cool. Add a few drops of food coloring if desired, then fill feeder. The coloring is more for us humans. It makes it easy to see how full the feeder and looks pretty. The birds come even when the nectar is clear.

Feeders need to be kept clean, so the birds do not get ill from bacteria growing in the feeder. Wash feeder with mild soap and water before each filling. Hang feeder in some shade so heat of the sun does not build up pressure and cause the nectar to overflow.

As a precaution, do not use honey as it sometimes carries bacteria that makes the birds ill and do not use artificial sweeteners.

Hummingbirds migrate through the Omaha, Nebraska in May and again in August and September. Be sure to plant plants that attract hummingbirds. Although they love the nectar we provide, plants that attract Hummingbirds are really more healthy than sugar water.
