About Nancy Tschopp NANCY BUDAHL TSCHOPP

The Masters of the l9th and 20th century have been, and continue to be, a great influence in the art of Nancy Budahl Tschopp. Coupled with the necessary techniques there is a passion to portray truth and emotion in her paintings, and, just as with those visionaries of the past, tell a story of a time and a place.

Growing up in Chicago, she was encouraged by her family of artists and musicians to follow her desire to paint, which began at the Chicago Art Institute. Later, working in oil and gouache, (an opaque watercolor used by many of the Masters), she majored in art at Mexico City College. Nancy was drawn to paint the dance and dancers of Mexico and Spain.

Following in the footsteps of such artists as the Paynes, the Wachtels and the contemporary masters Christensen and Aspevig, Nancy’s emphasis is to paint the light and the ever changing moods of the landscape, as well as the history and beauty of the missions of California.

After graduate studies in art education at California State University Fullerton she began traveling extensively and was moved to begin painting en plein air, exploring the grandeur of nature in the western United States.

Emerging into the world of art Nancy worked for several years with the Alexander Chidichimo School of Art in San Diego doing written critiques of student correspondence art. Still in San Diego, she has taught private studio painting classes for over eight years.

Nancy is a member of California Art Club, Oil Painters of America, San Diego Museum of Art Artist’s Guild and San Diego Seven. Her works are in collections throughout the United States, Mexico, Norway and New Zealand.
