The San Diego Chapter is an official chapter of NAVHDA International. We conduct our chapter activities in accordance with NAVHDA guidelines and support the goals and objectives of NAVHDA International. There are about 30 members in the San Diego Chapter. As in most NAVHDA chapters, our members are a mix of experienced, intermediate and novice dog trainers. Our experienced members are very supportive (and patient with) our novice members, and we all work with each other at our training clinics to produce better trainers, better dog handlers and better dogs. We conduct official NAVHDA tests about once a year and welcome participation by both chapter members and non-members. There are several breeds of versatile dogs in our club. They include Vizslas, German Shorthaired Pointers, German Wirehaired Pointers, Brittanies, Weimaraners, a Pudelpointer, and a Small Munsterlander. If you have not decided on which breed of versatile dog to get, a visit to one of our training clinics is a good way to see the various breeds in action. At our monthly training clinics, we work on the basic skills required of a versatile hunting dog. These include field search, pointing, steadiness to flush, shot and fall, water search, retrieving and tracking. We train at several sites, depending on the type of training we are trying to accomplish. Our rules for our training clinic are simple, but effective in maintaining the health and safety of our members and their dogs. Visit our gallery of Photos to see some of our dogs and members in action.
