The Road: Begins at I-85 Linwood (Davidson County) and ends at NC 49 near Martha (Randolph County)

History: NC 47 was born in 1973, running only from NC 8 near the JOAUM Home east to NC 109 Denton. This was an upgrade to SRs 2350, 2357 and 2346.
In 1974, NC 47 was extended east to NC 49 over Davidson SR 2511 and Randolph SR 1300.
In 1981 or 1982, NC 47 was extended west to I-85 over SRs 1130, 1104 and 1264.

The first NC 47 was born in late 1934 as a renumbering of NC 40-A. It ran from US 158 (now just Weldon Rd) Roanoke Rapids to US 301 Pleasant Hill.
In 1952, NC 47 was renumbered as part of NC 48.

Comments:
NC 47 doesn't seem to serve a particular travel corridor and has several turns in Denton.
For years NC 47 couldn't get onto the BGS at the Linwood exit from I-85.
