| N.C. 226A #2 4 miles | ||||
| The road: | Starts at NC 226 south of Bakersville in Mitchell County. Ends at NC 226 Loafers Glory, also in Mitchell County. | |||
| History: | Born by 2000, running as it does today. This was half an upgrade to Mine Creek Rd. and a renumbering of the northernmost 2 miles of NC 80. The route is effectively a bypass for Bakersville. The first(and still active) NC 226A is poetically described at the NCRoads.com here. | |||
| N.C. 231 (1925) | |||
| History: |
The original N.C. 23 did spawn a daughter, NC 231. This first NC 231 appeared as new routing in 1925, running from NC 21-23 (today this is US 701-NC 41-NC 87 Bus-NC 242 jct) Elizabethtown southeast to NC 20 (now US 74-76) Acme. By 1927, NC 231 was renumbered as part of the rerouted NC 21. Today the original NC 231 is part of NC 87. |

| N.C. 241 9 miles | ||||
| The road: | Starts at NC 41-111 Beulaville in Dublin County. Ends at NC 11 Pink Hill in Lenoir County. | |||
| History: | Born in the 1970's, running as it does today. This is the 3rd time around for 241.
The first NC 241 appeared in 1923 as new numbering, running from NC 24 Fayetteville northwest through Manchester and ending at NC 60 (precursor to US 421, although it used NC 42's approach from the east) Jonesboro, just short of Sanford. NC 241 was a one year phenomenon, as it was renumbered as an extension of the original NC 53. Today it is mostly part of NC 87, although in the Fayetteville area was likely today's NC 210.
The second N.C. 241 is covered at the original NCroads.com. |

| N.C. 243 dead | |||
| Formerly: | NC 243 existed at most 1931-33. It ran from NC 24 Hubert east to Swansboro. At that time, NC 24 ran over SR 1432 Parkerstown Rd, SR 1442 Stella Rd, and NC 58 to go over the White Oak River. NC 243 was killed when the Swansboro bridge was built and NC 24 was routed along it. | ||
| N.C. 291 dead | |||
| Formerly: | NC 291 existed at most 1930-32. It was a very short cutoff between NC 29 (current NC 7) Lowell and US 74/NC 20 near West Cramerton. along Groves Rd. It is shown explicitly on the 1930 Gaston County map and implied on the 1931 Official Map. NC 291 probably died when NC 29 became NC 7. I have no other indication that NC 291 was a primary route after that. | ||
