| History: | US 220-A was born in the about 1980 as a renumbering of US 220, which was moved onto today's freeway between Emery and Ether. Originally this had been US 311 and also NC 70.
About 1994, US 220-A was extended north through Seagrove to Ulah, again replacing a relocated US 220. A new freeway bypass of Norman and Ellerbe is now under construction (so says the 2005 RMcN), which will also be part of I-73/74. The old route could be more US 220-A or just NC 73 -- we'll just have to wait and see. |
