Shared Lane Marking

Name:

Shared lane marking - also known as the "shared lane arrow", "shared use arrow", "sharrow", "shared lane symbol", "shared roadway marking", "bike in a house"

Status:

The National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD) has recommended to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) that this marking be included in the next edition of the MUTCD.

However, until the marking is officially approved and published in the next MUTCD, its use is still considered EXPERIMENTAL - and is not approved for use except under written experimental authorization by FHWA in accordance with Section 1A.10 of the MUTCD. Contact Pete Rusch at FHWA for more details.
