Will Britnell,
Georges Jacquemart, P.E., AICP - BFJ Planning (Buckhurst Fish & Jacquemart, Inc.)
Mr. Jacquemart has a civil engineering diploma from the Federal Polytechnic Institute in Switzerland and an M.S. degree in Urban Planning from Stanford University. He is a principal of Buckhurst Fish & Jacquemart, a New York City consulting firm, and directs the firm's transportation work. Prior to that position he was a vice-president with Alan M. Voorhees Associates, an international consulting firm specializing in transportation.
He has worked for over 28 years in the fields of urban and transportation planning and traffic engineering. He acted as advisor to governments, institutions and private organizations all over the world. His areas of expertise include multi-modal transportation planning, transit planning, integrating transportation and land-use strategies, pedestrian circulation and safety analyses, and traffic calming.
Mr. Jacquemart wrote "Modern Roundabout Practice in the United States" for the National Research Council Transportation Research Board and he is one of the authors of the Roundabout Guide published in 2000 by the Federal Highway Administration. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Robert Wagner School of Public Service at New York University, where he teaches Transportation Planning.
Georges has been co-instructor for NEAR in 4 full day workshops (2 in October'03, & 2 in March'04).
Mark T. Johnson, P.E. - MTJ Engineering, LLC or
MTJ(at)mtjengineering.com
In Mr. Johnson's 12 years of transportation planning and engineering experience he has been involved in the evaluation, design, and public process of approximately 100 roundabout projects. These roundabout projects have ranged from low volume residential type designs to high volume interchanges on State Highway Systems and everything inbetween.
This roundabout engineering experience together with Mark's teaching background and extensive training and mentoring from roundabout experts in the US and UK allows Mr. Johnson to provide effective roundabout design instruction. Mark has taught in a dozen or more Roundabout Workshops, & participated in at least 100 other Roundabout presentations from Arizona to New Jersey.
Since 2001 Mark has been with the Wisconsin DOT & played a key role in the development of WIDOT's recently published & comprehensive roundabout design manual.
We hope to bring Mark to New England (he has family ties in both RI & Mass) in the NEAR future to co-teach a Roundabout Workshop.
Mark Lenters, P.E. - Roundabouts Canada
Over a 17-year period, Mr. Mark Lenters has had an active career in traffic engineering, transportation planning and project engineering in both the public and private sectors.
As general manager of SRM Associates and Roundabouts Canada, he is active in short range transportation planning, traffic safety audits and roundabout feasibility studies. Mr. Lenters conducted roundabout design training in 2002 and 2003 to promote the safety benefits and efficiencies of roundabouts in Ontario. He is the designer of Ontario's first modern version of a roundabout at a high-speed intersection. He has seven new roundabout designs currently underway and is peer reviewing 3 existing sites. Mark is active in ITE and the Ontario Traffic Conference.
As well, he maintains close ties to Ourston Roundabout Engineering of Santa Barbara and Barry Crown his mentor from the U.K. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario and British Columbia.
In October'03, Mark was 1 of the co-instructors in an all-star team including Barry Crown, Georges Jacquemart, & Howard McCulloch at NEAR's first 2 Roundabout Workshops.
.
Howard McCulloch - NE Roundabouts
"Howard, with NYDOT Design Services Bureau, deserves a substantial part of the credit for making the NYDOT in 4 short years the leading Northeastern state in Roundabout Development" (Tony Redington, Vt DOT)
Howard has been NYSDOT's Roundabout Design Specialist since 1999. Since then, Howard has been involved with almost every roundabout project in New York State. His participation in these projects ranges from preliminary comments regarding a proposed roundabout site's feasibility to final design plan development and review. Howard is responsible for roundabout overviews and roundabout design presentations throughout New York State. He has recently worked on New York State roundabout projects in Buffalo, Kingston, North Castle, Johnson City, North Haven, Ticonderoga, Voorheesville, Latham (I-87 Exit), Lake Placid, Malta (I-87 Exit), Rome, and Liberty. New York has 7 roundabouts operating, 4 to be built in 2003 and 14 more presently scheduled for 2004. (complete Word Doc)
Howard is a veteran Roundabout Instructor, having taught in over 7 of NEAR's full day workshops.
Richard Schell - RichMSchell(at)yahoo.com
Richard Schell, P.E., has over 20 years of civil
engineering experience, including 15 years of
Municipal and State design work.
As head of Roundabout Design for a State Department of
Transportation, Rich is a major contributor to
national roundabout policy development, particularly
in the areas of geometric design, signing and pavement
marking. His participation in projects varies from
preliminary comments regarding proposed roundabout
site feasibility to geometric design and design
guidance throughout the design process. Rich has
produced hundreds of preliminary designs and
feasibility studies, including capacity analysis using
VISSIM, SYNCHRO, RODEL and SIDRA. He shared in the
design of a, now operational, five roundabout corridor
from concept to completion. His redesign of the
Latham traffic circle reduced accidents by greater
than 60%, for which the project received a National
Roadway Safety Award, and Rich was co-recipient of the
2002 ITE Young Transportation Professional of the Year
Award.
Rich’s experience also consists of conducting numerous
roundabout design training workshops for various
state, municipal agencies and consultants, throughout
the nation, including both ConnDOT and Mass Highway.
Being a major proponent of roundabouts, he also has
extensive political/public interaction experience.
