To the left of the cabin, a bit down the mountain, is the family burial ground.
In the early 1900s my great grandparents Jack and Mollie Via lived here with their youngest child, Archie.

My grandfather, Thomas Gates VIA, was born 30 May 1888 in Doylesville, Albemarle County, Virginia. He died on 3 January 1947 in Baltimore City, Maryland and was buried in Meadowridge Memorial Park, Dorsey, Howard County, Maryland.

Gates, as he was always known, married Larkie Bell HACKETT, daughter of John Wickleff HACKETT and Sallie Betty BRANCH, on 30 January 1914 in Washington, DC. Larkie was born on 19 June 1898 in Buckingham County, Virginia. She died on 22 September 1977 in Baltimore City, Maryland and was buried in Crestlawn Gardens Cemetery (Saint Matthew's Section), Howard County, Maryland.

Second Generation

2. Mathew Thomas VIA "Matt or Jack" was born on 27 November 1854 in Fredericksville, Albemarle County, Virginia. He died on 11 December 1943 in Catonsville, Baltimore County, Maryland. He was buried on 13 December 1943 in Mount Moriah Cemetery, White Hall, Albemarle County, Virginia. He married Mary Anna POWELL on 13 December 1878 in Albemarle County, Virginia.

3. Mary Anna POWELL "Mollie" was born on 20 February 1858 in Rockfish, Nelson County, Virginia. She died on 31 March 1949 in Catonsville, Baltimore County, Maryland. She was buried on 3 April 1949 in Mount Moriah Cemetery, White Hall, Albemarle County, Virginia.

Third Generation

4. Thomas Turk VIA "Little Tommy or Tom Turk" was born in June 1825 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He died between 1900 and 1905 and was buried at the Via Farm on Via Lane in Doylesville, Albemarle County, Virginia. He married Susannah Mildred WALTON on 9 January 1851 in Albemarle County, Virginia.

Fourth Generation

5. Thomas C. VIA was born in 1785 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He died on 9 September 1875 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He married Sally TURK on 1 January 1811 in Albemarle County, Virginia.
