Howdy! I'm Nellie Blue, from Henderson, Nevada (originally from DeRidder, Louisiana).  It seems like everyone enjoys telling their SASS story....I'm no different.

How did you find out about Cowboy Action Shooting?
One day I was reading my NRA magazine and there was a story about End of Trail. A couple of days later S.A.S.S. was mentioned in an email I received. When I found out about a shoot just down the road the following weekend, I made up my mind that fate was trying to tell me something and went for a peek.

I'd been looking for some type of tournament shooting to get involved in and I figured that anything that would let me play dress-up and shoot guns at the same time would just be PERFECT!

Turns out that the shoot was the annual Eldorado Shoot. Everyone was so nice to me there that I decided to start trading and buying guns. Three months later the Eldorado Cowboys made my first shoot such a pleasure that I joined their club! THANK YOU!!!

Do you really do this all by yourself?
Sure! Why not!

How did you come up with your alias.
I wanted to use Nell in my name since it's part of my real name which honors my two grandmothers. I finally decided on Nellie Blue because Nellie sounds kind of like the old west and Blue is a nice Southern name. (It's also my favorite color.) Turns out...after some research....there were three (3) real-life Nellie Blues. Born in 1868, 1875, and 1877. I was shocked to learn that I had accidently picked out a real old-time name!

Here's my list of could-have-been's, but I still think the one I chose is the best.
  • Stumblin' Nell (but I was afraid I might try living up to my name)
  • Nevada Nellie
  • Nellie Taggart
  • Nellie McCoy
  • Auntie Nell (I don't have any kids of my own, but I've got lots of nieces and nephews in Louisiana)
Have you always liked to play cowboy?
I showed Quarter Horses in 4-H when I was a kid and I rode in High School Rodeo, even quailifying for the High School National Finals in Barrel Racing in 1978.

After I graduated, I learned a little trick roping while working for Montie Montana, Jr. in his Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, performing in shows all over the world.

Well, that's my story...and I'm stickin' to it. You'll know me when you see me out at the range....I'm the one with the great big grin on my face!
