We arrived at 8AM to be greeted by about 25 college age adults who had spent the entire night in the cave partying.

Twenty five cavers participated in sandblasting and removing graffiti. The cave is now clear of graffiti from the entrance to the cracks heading towards the big room. Three teams were able to work simotaneously and with little overlay in their work areas. The phone line and electrical line were run from the surface into the cave between the second and third teams and was very benificial for addressing needs and communication like re-fueling the compressor and generator. Two of the lights failed, probably due to fluctuating power level and were replaced. The two Shop-Vacs were helpful in removing blast media.

Additional respirators were purchased bringing the total to 20. These and goggles make the work bearable against the constant dust.

We were working a total of 10 hours and headed down to Oracle for a well deserved dinner. Huge thanks to everyone who just kept working at this daunting task.

We discovered we are missing two of the project helmets, #16 and #20. I do not remember seeing these numbers in the cave and suspect that they were taken from our staging area by a couple of the 200ish tourists that visited the cave during the day. If anyone happens to know where either of these helmets are, I would appreciate you letting me know.

The total Volunteer Value generated came to about $5,046.00 for the effort.

Thanks again.

Ray

We met at the cave at 8:00 a.m.
We gathered outside the cave to get last minute instructions. We had to run a phone line, extention cord and high pressure air hose into the cave. It took about an hour to get things set up. We were assigned positions then we divided into teams and headed into the cave.
We met at 8:00

We had 3 sand blasting teams which consisted of:
1) Sand Blast Nozel Operator
2) Sand Hopper Operator
3) High Pressure Hose Navagator and Media Retreival
4) Media Retreival Engineer
5) Area Light Navagator

In the cave we had a phone operator that also watched the 3 way regulator leading to the three sand blasting stations. Outside the cave we had a power generator and an air comperssor in the back of a truck for the sand blasters. Someone had to monitor the main air pressure and fuel.

We had to remove as much of the sand media from the cave as possible. We held up a plexiglass shield with a plastic skirt to reduce debris in the air and we laid out tarps to keep the sand off the cave floor. We switched positions so everyone could take turns doing different things.

Everyone seemed to have fun.
