In Memoriam: Nancy D. Quinn Just recently, I learned of the passing of a dear friend, Nancy Quinn, in December 2007. I had known Nancy and her husband, Bob, for many years and we often met at national and world figure skating championships to chat, speculate, and talk pin trading. I met Nancy and Bob in 1983 at Skate America in Rochester, N.Y.; we happened to have been assigned front-row, all-event tickets next to each other. That meeting began what was an instant friendship, and both Nancy and Bob inspired, encouraged, and challenged me in pin collecting endeavors. In 1987, Nancy and Bob published the book Figure Skating Pins, a labor of love for which they logged countless hours of traveling, networking, trading, and researching to bring collectors a never-before-available look at a multitude of pins that chronicle the sport of figure skating. The book is a pictorial of nearly 400 pins issued to commemorate figure skating championships, federations, and clubs. I was honored to loan several pins from my collection for inclusion in the book. Nancy was personable, opinionated, funny, eager to talk, always smiling, and was just about one of the nicest people you could meet. I am honored to have called her my friend. |
