Book of Golden DeedsThis program is designed to honor the good deeds of America's un-sung heroes: recognizing those uncommon men and women, who, if not for this project, might never receive the acclaim they deserve. From time-to-time, the club invites an worthy individual to lunch and presents them with a handsome plaque and a lively, standing ovation. Here's our latest honoree! Press "Here" EnvironmentAnnually, several club members pitch-in at a community effort to improve our environment. Additionally, we occasionally extend a luncheon invitation to speakers who can present on an environmentally important topic. D.A.R.E.Each year the club invites the D.A.R.E Officer from the Newport Beach Police Department to lunch. The officer typically relates the details of the current D.A.R.E program, in exchange for which, we present her with a cash donation. Crime PreventionOur club contributes to crime prevention by each year presenting a member of the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa Police Departments with a Policeman of the Year plaque. This presentation is usually accompanied with a question and answer session on crime related topics. Fire PreventionOur club annually contributes to fire prevention by presenting a member of the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa Fire Departments with a Fireman of the Year plaque. This presentation is usually accompanied with a question and answer session on fire and paramedic related topics. We got pictures! Click "Here" Service to SeniorsRecognizing the special needs of the seniors in our community, our club from time-to-time sponsors seniors related programs. Past efforts have included a club led review of handicapped parking in our community and presentation of seniors related topics at local events. AviationRecognizing the importance of convenient and adequate aviation facilities to the strength of our community, several club members are spearheading efforts to open an additional airport at the decommissioned El Toro Marine Base. Additionally, as is so needed in a free country, several members are participating in efforts to defeat the proposal of opening an air port at that site. Makes for interesting discussions, does it not? Adopt-A-Social-WorkerAdopt-a-social-worker is an Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center program, where County of Orange social workers are matched with local service clubs, religious congregations and community groups. In support of this effort, our club has adopted a County of Orange social worker. Our participation in this program consists of providing the families served by our social worker with specific needs that the family is not able to provide for itself. Items donated by our members or purchased with club funds consist of common household items, child care needs and school and recreation needs. Back to Top |
