914 project for sale

This is not my car.  It's not even the same color, nor does it have the same wheels.  Basically this picture is just here to inspire you.

So anyway, about *my* car...

I bought this car around 1994 or so... I was going to fix it up and turn it into a daily driver.  Unfortunately, just about the time I came up with the money to have my bodywork done, the guy that was going to do it for me had his body man quit.  Real life intervened and I now live near Washington, DC where a 914 would be a speed bump for all the big, ugly SUVs on the road - and I can't afford to have any more "toy" cars.  So much as it pains me to give up this neat little car which I've collected so many parts for over the years, I reluctantly put it up for sale.

It's a '71 914/4, 1.7 liter engine with the tail shift transmission.  Bone stock and ran well when parked (but that was a couple years ago, no guarantee of current serviceability implied) with the exception of a stuck auxiliary air valve.  Mechanically needed some new fuel lines and that's about it.  Cosmetically... well both rust and poor driving (not mine!) took their toll.

It's in my parents' barn in PA about 45 minutes west of Pittsburgh.  My dad (finally!) got a digital camera so I bribed him to take some pictures of it.  Yes, it's an ugly car, but there are lots of excellent parts that come with it.  I believe I have 99% of the parts you would need to put it together, if you are a good welder and have access to a frame rack (due to rust in the rockers, collision damage is cosmetic only) or are good at jigging up rusted unibodies for repair, this may be a good deal for you.

Email me - make me an offer!

Just bring a trailer, and preferably one towed by a pickup with an empty bed.  There's enough parts to fill it up, trust me.

Ouch!  poor thing... but keep looking...

Has Pedrinni alloys with correct lugs.

This is the only bent panel I don't have a repair section for.  I do however have a trunk lock that I've fixed to work with the correct key.

Interior is actually fairly presentable.  Yes, I do have the carpets, or at least most of them.

Dash is fairly complete and everything works.  Yes, that's the wrong speedo but if you scroll down you will see that I have the correct one.  In fact I ought to have a complete spare gauge panel somewhere.  I also have both DIN and 2-shaft radio plates, just not installed.  Rust on floor is due to bad master cylinder  (repaired) and appears to be cosmetic only.

Extra front and rear suspension parts...  if you like curb surfing

Front fender, to replace crumpled piece on car.  Door, same same.  Rear quarter is just extra - I think it would be more work to replace it than to just hammer out the dents in the one on the car.  I also have new inner and outer rockers and a battery tray, not yet installed.

Extra hood...

Bumpers... (also have a fiberglass 916 rear panel that was on the car and looks repairable - not shown.)
Yes, the third piece down is from a VW Rabbit.  I guess my dad didn't know.  You can have it too if you want as I sure don't need it.

Bursch steelpack exhaust with stainless heat exchangers.  Why settle for no heat?

I bought all the stuff I was missing to make the heater work just before I found out I wasn't getting any bodywork done.  My loss is your gain.  You can see that I have already cleaned and painted some of the formerly less presentable parts.

Extra FI and other miscellaneous engine parts

Taillights (two usable, two that I never threw out) foglights (other one is on the car) and other stuff...

Extra glass...

Repair panels and new fiberglass outer rockers.  Steel wheels can go with car if you want them, I have no use for them.  Fit Beetle and 914.

(thanks for the pics dad!)
