1 June 2008 - little improvements

Ever see a Stude with the early three spoke wheel but no shifter on the column?  Here's how you do it - take a turn signal housing from an early style 3-speed column and the smooth collar from a late Powershift or 4-speed car.  Borrow a turn signal housing for the same late car, transfer the two holes to the early 3-speed turn signal housing, assemble, paint, et voila.  It really was just about that easy and looks a heck of a lot better than leaving that ugly shifter nub on there.  I did not remove the levers from the bottom of the column yet because I would like to paint the upper doors, column, and dash the correct pinkish grey color at some point which will necessitate column removal.

My other little improvement of the day.  Wheels are 15x7" M-body MoPar cop car wheels with cheap Mr. Gasket baby moons and 15x7" Chevy Rallye trim rings.  I think if I can get my hands on the 15x8" Chevy trim rings I might try those instead as there is still a little gap between the trim ring and the wheel center.  I like these better than the currently available aftermarket trim rings as they really accentuate that "deep dish" wheel look.  JDP made me paint them red and I think that was a good call looking at the results.  It takes two people to get the trim rings on the first time though as the fingers are a little tight for the MoPar rims; I guess the Chevy rims must be slightly larger in diameter.  Also the holes are close to the valve stems, good thing I used the rigid screw in ones.  Just squint and imagine this car with a red vinyl interior...
