Community Salutes Roberts, Atkins for Refurbishment of Vermont Street Bridge
6 p.m., Tuesday, July 17th
Vermont Street Bridge, Hillcrest; Trader Joe’s side of bridge

San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts and City Councilmember Toni Atkins will be honored July 17 at a community celebration for their efforts in donating grant money to renovate  the Vermont Street Bridge in Hillcrest.

The pedestrian bridge spans Washington Street and connects the Uptown District of Hillcrest—home to Trader Joe’s, Ralph’s Groceries and an eclectic assortment of shops—to the residential neighborhood of University Heights.

A plaque saluting Roberts, whose District 4 office donated $15,000, and Atkins, whose District 3 council office donated $5,000, will be embedded in a column of the bridge.  Greg Sorini, president of University Heights Community Association, will emcee the special presentation, where bridge designers and artists also will be acknowledged for their many accomplishments.

Neighborhood businesses will contribute refreshments.
