I have just completed a 12 year project regarding abenaki individuals from the St-Francis Mission (1790-1900). For additional information please visit www.abenakipapertrail.com. I would appreciate it if you could consider adding my site as a link to your invaluable site. I have been reading the material on your web for many years and always love the various submissions by you and your guests. Great stuff!!Thank you

www.abenakipapertrail.com/ IntroductionResiding near St-François du Lac, more commonly known as Odanak, the Abenakis of St-Francis have a rich history recorded through almost 9000 entries of legal transactions. Important historical information from the words of the recorder at the time of the event is included in each description. Our many ancestors with family names like Benedict, Capino, Hannis, Obomsawin, Panadis, Paquette, Tahamont, Wawanolet, are included in this large collection.
This publication will enable the researchers to peer into the daily lives of these individuals and help solve a few mysteries.
“This is my tribute to all who have gone before me…”
Content
• Biography of Robert Paquette
• Names of Abenaki clients
• Dates and descriptions of notarized documents
• Signatures of clients
• Copies of documents written in the Abenaki languagePurpose
These publications are a repository of their traditions and local life
For All: To promulgate their history and expand ones knowledge. To allow the reader to create a visual identity of the individuals.
For the Historian: To depict the culture, customs, religion, historical events, hunting areas, agreements on internal affairs, members of the inner council, roles of leadership, social distinction, social solidarity, collective goals, and ancestral lines etc..
For the Band: To recruit new band members.
For the Genealogist: To establish the lineage, ancestry, kinship and family pride.Culture is fundamental and should be a matter of great interest to us all. Only through the continued harvesting of written material will their history survive. The experience and knowledge of former generations can be preserved if we collectively make the effort of gathering and disseminate our findings for all to discover.
