Using and Making Looped Attachments.

Everyone I have talked to seems to be somewhat intimidated by the loop attachment method I use for the NPW kites. As a second addendum to the NPW article last month, I include several pix here (below) in hopes that a picture is worth a thousand words.

I make wire loops with piano wire purchased from hobby shops. Sizes run from about 10 thousandths of an inch to about 30 thou. The wire is available in 3 foot lengths and costs only pennies per length except the larger sizes which may go as much as fifty cents per length.

Overall lengths of the finished wire pulling loops vary from about 5 inches to 8 inches for making flying lines when the Dacron sleeving for the loops is about 18" long.

Hope the pix help, but if not, gimme an email and maybe we can figure what we can do...

Note.  When pulling shrouds in to tunnels, and especially tying smaller Dacron lines, fraying the end of the tag makes pulling the end into and through the tunnel a lot easier.  Fray about a quarter to a half inch of the line [depending on diameter] and insert half the length of the frayed end through the loop of the fid ~ really holds better!

Hopefully this will make bridling a bit easier for you. I have also written another small bit about how to attach the loops to the sail itself, complete with pix…  To see the bridling section click here.  http://members.cox.net/npwbill/NPWBill.htm
