Vocabulary

These are the concepts that will allow you to draw in 3D.

Exercises

This is what you will need to practice.

Contour lines curve with an object and can make it look like it is coming towards you or going away from you.
Action lines help make an object seem like it is moving.

If you can see the front of an object, you can't see the back of it.

Flowers are variations of foreshortened circles. You can create great depth in the drawing of a tree by using all of these concepts.

Even a simple snowman can show depth using shading and cast shadows.

Practicing L's in 4 directions will prepare you for
more elaborate items such as furniture, buildings, or vehicles.

Complex objects like animals can always be broken down into basic forms.

Ribbons prepare you for walls, flags, leaves, clothing and much more.

All of these are based on the concept of ribbon relationships.

Even this cliff and complicated looking candleholder are just ribbon relationships.

You can create simple interiors using alignment, foreshortening, and thicknesses.

Cross alignment is probably the most difficult of these concepts.

When you learn them all, you can draw just about anything you could ever imagine!
