CANAL PARK LAKE, ALMOST THERE!

·        If it’s a lake, where’s the water?

·        The water will flow on January 20th

The Canal Park Lake shoreline stabilization is almost complete, thanks to a grant from the AZ Game & Fish Dept., a neighborhood grant secured by NTNA, and additional funding by the Water Utilities Dept.

Stabilization of the lake shore is the first step in implementing the master plan for Canal Park. We are grateful to the members of Tempe Parks Dept., Tempe Public Works Division of Engineering, and the City of Tempe Water Utilities Dept. for embracing the project and their tireless efforts to bring it to fruition.

On New Year’s Day and the next group of neighborhood volunteers (Darlene, Bill, Mike, Tina, Nikki, & Chad Justus, Cheri & Ryan Myers and Evelyn & Lou Hallman) stacked rocks for the shoreline transition and cleaned the small island.

Arizona Game & Fish Dept. is creating additional fish habitat to improve the area for anglers.

PICNIC IN THE PARK

NTNA again held our Picnic in the Park/GAIN this year. It was held at Tempe Papago Park instead of Canal Park. There was fishing, make your own sundae, a new playground, neighborhood displays, roving raffle, and information. As always everything was free. About 300 people attended on a beautiful October day.

Organ Pipe Cacti In Canal Park

There are 3 big new Organ Pipe cacti in the north western part of Canal Park. Darlene Justus found them on the internet. They were begging for a home. All that was needed was a crew and means to move them and plant them. Darlene gathered all of the above and with the help of Jeff Carroll, Parks Maintenance Supervisor got it all done on November 23rd plus a few more days for the last one.
