Johnny G. Martinez Water Treatment Plant

Expansion

To help meet the drinking water needs of our growing community, the City of Tempe Water Utilities Department has begun planning for an expansion of the Johnny G. Martinez Water Treatment plant.  The Martinez Plant currently Treats 50 million gallons of water a day (mgd), and This proposed expansion will increase the plant’s capacity to 80 mgd.  The recently completed Water Utilities Department Integrated Management Plan indicates the additional capacity is needed to meet future demand.  A draft study report was completed which provides an assessment of the existing and planned new facilities associated with the expansion.  According to the results of this study, the existing treatment plant site is adequate to accommodate the plant expansion.  No new structures will be built outside the existing boundaries.   In an effort to provide additional information to the residents most directly impacted by this expansion, community newsletters were distributed, and two neighborhood meetings have been held to date providing information on the expansion.   At the mose recent neighborhood meeting, held January 7th, the participants decided the most effective way to provide information to and seek information from the community was through NTNA.  If you’re interested in receiving more information on this expansion or providing your comments, please visit our project website at http://ims.carollo.com/jgmwtpexpansion, or contact Don Hawkes, City of Tempe, 480-350-2660, or your NTNA representative.
