Who:
The
high school division will be for anyone entering 9th grade in the fall of 2008 to
Seniors who graduated in June of 2008.
The Adult Division for for
anyone 18 years old and older as of June 13, 2008.
Equipment:
All your field lacrosse gear can be used. A dedicated box stick can be
used, but not required. Basketball shoes and rib pads are recommended.
Rules:
We
will be using field rules and no long poles. Maximum stick length, 46
inches. Therefore,
NO cross-checking, NO checking into the boards, and NO checking when someone's momentum caries them into the boards!!! This is
not the NLL or Canada!!
Philosophy for High School Players:
The idea is to keep a
stick in the hands of the players during the summer and to have a venue that it
a bit different. The players must learn to adapt to new circumstances since the
game is a different, no out of bounds, ricochets off the boards, tiny goals,
massive goalies, etc. The relatively compact play area forces the players
to make quicker decisions, more accurate passes, and anticipate fast breaks at
any moment.
Offensive players are highly encouraged to work on their off-hand stick skills, latest dodge/move, new shooting technique, and fine tune their shooting accuracy in a venue which they don't have to worry about turnovers, looking silly, or the ire of a frustrated coach. Defensive players are matched up against strong offensive players to work on proper footwork, body positioning, and not be dependent on a 6 foot pole.
