All American Girls: The USA National Soccer Team published by Pocket Books in 1999 is the only authorized biography of the World Cup and two time Olympic Gold Medal winning U.S. women's national soccer team. "Write what you know" the age old writer's adage applies here. I pitched the idea to the team's sports agent at about the same time eleven other writers did. I was selected by team consensus. Why? I'd done my homework and submitted a mock chapter along with the mini proposal requested. The voice of that chapter spoke to the audience National Team players wanted to reach; adolescent girl athletes. How did I know that? I spent years before I had conceived this idea on soccer fields, cheering my three daughters through wins and loses. Write what you know indeed.
