Teacher

When I left the nursing profession, what I missed most was teaching so once I had built up enough writing credits, I added teaching to my writing life. For many years, I was a devoted student of the renowned Santa Barbara Writer's Conference, attending for 11 years before I had the audacity to apply for a workshop leader teaching position. Ask and you shall receive. I got it! I teach a 'marketing to writers' workshop each year at SBWC that students tell me is very helpful. I also teach a version of this workshop at the Southern California Writer's Conference and at the University of California, Irvine-Extension. As as aside, I highly recommend writer's conferences and not just for the knowledge you will acquire. Writing can be lonely, spending so much time alone at our keyboards. Hanging out with other writers is just good fun and it can benefit your writing life. You never know who you'll meet. For most writers, conferences offer the first opportunity to talk to agents, editors and published writers. All have knowledge you need to know.

The following are titles of workshops and courses taught by Marla Miller:

  1. How To Write A Book Proposal That Sells
  2. Creative Non Fiction: Writing It Well.
  3. Selling Non-Fiction In Today’s Market
