RACQUET CLUB MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, JULY 8, 2009
Meeting was called to order at 4:20 – approximately 36 members were present.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: No motions were made at the May 13 meeting.
TREASURER’S REPORT: $1,704 in the treasury as of today. Three events were reported on: The Red & Blue tournament brought in $97.00; The Tennis Pizza Social brought in $42.90; but the Picnic spent $194 more than collected which was taken from the treasury. The treasurer asked that people submit their requests for checks in advance of when they need them.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS: Clay Marohnic, and Carol and Pete White.
FACILITIES CONDITIONS: Joan Gross requested again that the green “kitchen” line be painted, regulation width, on all paddle tennis courts the same. A vote was taken to approve this action, the vote was in favor, and she will present that to the Recreation Department.
TENNIS CLINICS: No one has contacted Joyce Lazarus to attend, so there is no clinic set up. Joyce was asked to phone Steve, our visiting pro.
LA VIDA DOLCE: Joan Gross explained the planned menu and suggested $25 per ticket. Debi Vail made a motion that the club pay for the DJ and the wine, to a maximum of $400. It was decided that the tickets will be $20 for members and $25 for guests, and a flyer will go out soon.
VILLAGE OLYMPICS: Teams may have to be balanced out, to make them more competitive.
PICNIC: All those who helped were thanked, and Diana Wenman’s video was shown.
LADIES DAY TENNIS: Kathy Moskovitz reported. There were 12 participants on 6/20. She invited all to sign up for the August 1 gathering.
DROP-IN TENNIS: Dannica reported that it is going great…they always have at least two courts filled.
DROP-IN PADDLE TENNIS: They usually have a great turnout including new players, and usually fill three courts. Next paddle tennis social is on 7/28 from 3-6 p.m.
DROP-IN PICKLEBALL: Joan Gross reported that they have no shortage of players and fill all three courts. They had an exhibition on Saturday, 7/4, from four outside players. Lessons will now be given ½ hour before the drop-in time. One court will be used for the first hour for beginners and intermediate players, and courts 2-3 for intermediate and advanced. She is ready to order more paddles @ $45 each including 3 balls. The pickleball tournament social on 7/18 will be $10/person for luncheon from Subway and goodies. The semi-professionals want to give lessons. Dirk will coordinate lessons. Players can go to the HOA courts to play if there is too long of a wait at the clubhouse courts.
LADIES TABLE TENNIS: Bunny Quint reported that they usually have two tables of doubles going in the Mykonos Room on Fridays from 3-4 p.m.
WATER VOLLEYBALL: Joyce Malloy reported that they’ve been playing since Memorial Day– every Monday from 3-5 p.m., having about 12 on each side. This will go thru November and sometimes have BBQs afterward as announced in emails.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Dannica Wood and John Ploss offered to continue next term. We will need a nominating committee to find a new president and vice president. Dirk Frowein volunteered to be on the nominating committee.
CHANNEL 12 MONITOR: Paul Yoshida volunteered to keep our events on Channel 12.
FOOD COMMITTEE: Thanks went to Lyn Asaro for her great job on the food.
MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS: Dick Lyman has serious lung cancer. George Burgess had a heart attack. Terrel Campbell is recovering from leg surgery. Dannica will send cards from the Racquet Club.
