RACQUET CLUB MINUTES
MEETING 11 MARCH 2009
Meeting was called to order at 4:30 PM – approximately 30 members were in attendance.
SECRETARY'S REPORT: No motions were passed in the last meeting.
TREASURER'S REPORT: $2,795.33
DEBI VAIL: New members were welcomed to the meeting: Ritz Schnedar, and Jeff Converse. Debi reported on the March 1 President’s Meeting. Sunny Frowein of the RC is on the planning committee for the 25-Yr. Anniversary event. Lyn Asaro made a motion to have the RC purchase a $90 full-page ad in the anniversary yearbook. The motion was seconded and passed. Dannica Wood volunteered to write the page text and gather the photos, and members were asked to forward photos to Dannica. The club is 24 years old. Ginny O’Hara and Kay & Hank Ley are original or very “early-on” members who are still active and playing tennis.
FACILITIES: Debi Vail reported that Clair Lair has fixed net/tapes, the windscreens were fixed, trashcans replaced, and some new chairs furnished. The cause of the water problem still needs to be determined. One-half inch pickleball kitchen lines will be painted on remaining paddle tennis courts–a decision made at a recent board meeting.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY TENNIS TOURNAMENT: Linda Getz reported that we need an additional scorekeeper for the event. They will be giving bottles of wine for prizes. It will be a round-robin social.
TENNIS EXHIBITION AND CLINICS: Roberta Ostro gave an overview of the tennis clinics given by Steve Crawford–he has given two thus far. The next April 1 clinic is filled, but Joyce Malloy is taking names of substitutes so that if there are cancellations, they can fill the slots.
TENNIS PIZZA SOCIAL on APRIL 24: An exhibition match is possible on that date involving Joe Winkler and Steve Crawford and other plans not known at this time. Look for more information
THE GREAT ALL-AMERICAN PICNIC AND DANCE ON JUNE 14: Marilyn Beck reported that they have a game committee (games will be played in the grass near the chipping area of the golf course), Willie and Taylor will be clowns, Debi Vail and Joanne Goglia will be a cheerleaders, and they have hired a DJ. The picnic is at 3:00 p.m. and the dinner at 5:00 p.m. They need volunteers: BBQ cooks & supervisors for games. It will be $7 for members and $9 for non-members (spouses of members pay $9). We’ve established a limit of 100 guests. The announcement will go out May 1; June 7 will be the cut-off date. On May 25, non-members may sign up if it’s not full. Much discussion followed regarding budget and possible over-run of budget. The organizers of the event assured that they had assessed all expenses and determined the ticket price. A motion was made by Dannica Wood that the club subsidize any extra monies necessary, the motion was seconded, and the motion passed. Later a volunteer was requested to help in telephoning people regarding this event–Ginny O’Hara volunteered.
LADEZZZ DAY EVENTS: Kathy Moskovitz was introduced as the new member in charge of Ladezzz Day events. She stated that she would use the first sixteen ladies to sign up, and that they would be using the same format used previously.
WALK-UP TENNIS: Ray Notholt reported that recently they have used three courts, and the event is usually well attended depending on week and weather.
PADDLE TENNIS: Paul Yoshida reported that the next paddle tennis social will be on May 5. The last one was plagued with bad weather. They are potlucks and lots of fun. Drop-in paddle tennis is now at the clubhouse courts, due to better attendance.
PICKLEBALL: Paul Yoshida reported that they’ve had 13-14 people so they have moved to the clubhouse courts also.
LADIES’ TABLE TENNIS: Dannica Wood reported (for Bunny Quint) that this event held every Friday from 3-4:00 p.m. in the Mykonos Room is already well attended enough to have two tables going. Players of all levels show up, but it’s fun and fairly competitive, and yet very social too. All are welcome.
MONTHLY NEWSLETTER RC ARTICLE: Dannica Wood requested that anyone having anything to say in our article, please email it to her for inclusion at the first of every month for the issue to be delivered on the first of the following month. This would be a tremendous help.
THANKS TO ALL COMMITTEE MEMBERS and other helpers by Debi Vail.
MEETING ADJOURNED: 5:38 p.m.
