MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, MAY
13, 2009
Meeting was called to order at 4:30 PM – approximately 30 members were in attendance.
SECRETARY'S REPORT: Motions read.
TREASURER'S REPORT: $1,938.69
DEBI VAIL: New members were welcomed to the meeting: Daneen LeRoy. Debi reported on the President’s Meeting. Debi and Sunny Frowein presented plans for the 25-Yr. Anniversary event.
FACILITIES: Debi Vail asked members to report any facilities needing repair, and cleanup of the overhang on Court 2 was mentioned.
CLINICS: Roberta Ostro organized the first two, and Joyce Malloy did the last one. Interested parties should sign up with Joyce Lazarus, who volunteered to set up the next clinic which involves six players and alternates.
THE GREAT ALL-AMERICAN PICNIC: Marilyn Beck reported that 30 tickets have been sold. Members are urged to buy their tickets soon, and Dannica will send out an email requesting that. You can buy tickets for your guests early, and then get a refund if they cannot attend. Herb Livsey volunteered to call members if tickets don’t get sold. On May 25, non-members may sign up if it’s not full.
LADEZZZ DAY EVENTS: June 20 event will be announced by an email. Need at least 16 women.
VILLAGE OLYMPICS, 9/5: Sunny is putting out PR on the Olympics. They need eight teams named for the villages with 20-25 people per team. They need 8 team captains…to head up each team.
VILLAGE FAIRE FOOD COURT, 11/20: We need ideas for a club food concession as a fundraiser. Tickets will be sold by the Rec. Dept. and redeemed at the food concession. Terrel Campbell volunteered to investigate a possible food product. The yearbooks will be distributed and a “Dancing with the Stars” contest will be held.
TENNIS EXHIBITION: Joyce Malloy congratulated all participants and those who attended and helped make this event a total success. Diana Wenman taped the event.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY TENNIS TOURNAMENT/SPORTSMANSHIP: Debi Vail reviewed a sportsmanship incident and recited the tennis rules for line calls. Receivers make the cal; no comments from spectators. We will have a zero-tolerance policy for this in tournaments, and those who cannot accept this should not enter tournaments. We will have subs standing by in the future.
WALK-UP TENNIS: Linda Notholt reported that recently they have used two courts, but plan on more when the snowbirds return to OHCC.
PADDLE SOCIAL ON 5/5: Paul Yoshida reported that it was better attended than the last one. Winners: Dannica Wood, Ana Yoshida, and Karin Walton, a new resident.
DROP-IN PADDLE AND PICKLEBALL: Paul Yoshida reported that this is ongoing and there has been a request to have more drop-in pickleball in the future (possibly M-W-F), and this will be addressed later on.
LADIES’ TABLE TENNIS: Dannica Wood reported that this is going well.
FOOD COMMITTEE FOR THIS MEETING: Debi Vail and Judy Gagnon prepared the food and were thanked.
MEMBERS ANNOUNCEMENTS: Dee Ploss reported that they are still working on the 5/16 tournament lineup. The start time was changed to 9:00 a.m.
