MEETING MINUTES, JANUARY 14, 2009

Meeting was called to order at 4:30 PM – approximately 33 members were in attendance.

SECRETARY'S REPORT:  Dannica Wood read motions passed last meeting.

TREASURER'S REPORT:  $2,111.82

TENNIS CLINICS & LESSONS:  Roberta introduced Steve Crawford.  A tennis clinic will be starting on 2/11 for four sessions.  Need 2-3 more subs for clinic.  Cost is $10/session.  Presentation by Steve Crawford.  He will post signs for Tuesday lessons when the date gets closer.  Call him for information.  $10/person for Tuesdays.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:  Al Fried, Janice Hart, Reva Bernstein, Pamela Force, Jerry & Kathy Moskovitz, Arnie Velasco, Galen Marks, Rita Schnedar.  And Rene Kelson (will join but not paid yet).

REFRESHMENTS:  Thanks go to Lyn Asaro.

OVERVIEW AND GENERAL DISCUSSION:  Debi is considering purchasing Hal's decorations for the club.

Club meeting day choice was discussed.  It was decided to leave it on Wednesdays.

Members were asked to let Dannica know if any member is ill or having surgery, so she can send a get-well card on behalf of the club.  Roberta suggested a rep for each sport to help new members get into their sport.

Various types of events were discussed and ideas were solicited.  Debi wants to intermingle clubs in an event with Bocci club in the springtime.  The purchase of a speed gun to check serves was discussed.  The model that you had to hold was $70, and the model that you didn’t need to hold was $129.

REPAIRS ON COURTS:  Glen asked us to keep on top of the water bubbling the surface of the courts...a drain may be put from court 4 into a culvert...would not be too costly.  The mgmt. is awaiting results of “water-under-the-clubhouse” testing.  Large repairs need to be turned into Homeowners Assn. (over $1,000).  Smaller repairs should go to Gordon and follow up with Chris and Louise.

LADEZZZ DAY:  Jo Wichary reported on her Ladezzz Day four tournaments during the year.  Winners were (in no particular order) Judy Gagnon, Kay Lay, Joanne Goglia, Ana Yoshida, Carol Sue, Suchico Okada, and Terrel Campbell.

EVENTS COMMITTEE:  Dee Ploss and Terrel Campbell reported.  The first meeting will be at Linda Heller’s home on Thursday, 1/22, at 4:30.  They want your good ideas, not necessitating that you chair an event.

WALK-UP TENNIS:  Al Harruff reported this event held on Thursdays, 11-1.  New players and regulars are invited. Al thought that NuBees and Real Estate people should ask new owners what sport they're interested.

PADDLE SOCIALS & DROP-IN PADDLE TENNIS:  Paul Yoshida reports that there are four scheduled paddle socials during the year.  They consist of 1 1/2 hours of play and a potluck.  Drop in paddle is on Tuesdays, 2-4 at the HOA courts.

DROP-IN PICKLEBALL:  Thursdays, HOA courts, 2-4.

TABLE TENNIS: Glen Goglia reported.  A lot of new people are playing ....only about 5 really good players are out there.   One table for the better players....the other two are for the beginning/intermediate levels.  Mykonos room, M-W-F, 1-3.  No use of robot except for someone appointed by the RC.    Table must be set up by staff, except for regular players who know how to set up the tables Lyn Asaro moved that no one except for Glen Goglia, Paul Yoshida, and Al Harruff be able to set up the robot.  Training should be required to allow any other members to set it up as it is technical and can be easily broken.

It was mentioned that the 25-Year Anniversary events are mentioned in our calendar of events only for planning purposes.

MEETING ADJOURNED at 5:32.
