A SHORT SKETCH OF PETE ZACHRY



Born in Dallas, TX, in 1935. Lived throughout Texas and New Mexico before coming to Oklahoma in 1960 where I have lived since. Married in 1960 to Dorothy Jo Downey, highschool sweetheart. We have two sons, Joe born 1963 and Bill born 1967. One grandson, Ian, by way of his father Bill and (ex)wife Amanda.

Graduated highschool in Denton, TX, in 1955. College - North Texas State College. Military service began in the 1st 4.5" Rocket Battalion, Marine Corps Reserves, while still in high school. Three year tour of active duty with the Army Security Agency at Fort Devens (Ayer), Mass, and in Germany (6th Field at Herzo Base & ASA Hq. in Frankfortr).

Career with the Oklahoma Highway Department began in 1960 and continued until retirement in 1988. Job duties included materials inspector, statistician, cost accountant, manager, traffic engineer, environmental engineer, and special project manager.

Community service has been through Kiwanis International which I joined in February, 1968. In high school I was a member of Key Club International for three years. I have served as Kiwanis Club President, Lt. Governor, Secretary, many club committee chairmanships, T/O District Regional Counselor for Key Clubs for four years, and Texas/Oklanoma District Chairman for Budget & Finance. I am a thirty-five year member of the Legion of Honor and a Life Member of the Texas/Oklahoma Past Lt. Governors Association (Life Member #25).

Hobbies over the years have included auto restoration (I still keep a project going most of the time), computers, gardening, woodworking, Amateur Radio (started in highschool), arts of various types, and the latest, Woodcarving/sculpting. I love reading and schedule some time each day for this pastime.

I currently teach at Rose State College one day per week where I serve as instructor of woodcarving in the seniors program .
