Woodcarving Shows are events hosted by various woodcarving clubs around the country. Such shows include a judged competition for selected categories and classifications of woodcarving. One event that most of these show have in common is an "Old Time Whittling Contest". The contestants are all given identical pieces of wood and are told what they are to carve in a certain time limit (usually one hour or slightly more). At the end of the period, everyone stops and the pieces are judged. Carvers usually are allowed one carving device, one pencil, one sharpening device, and a carving glove (almost always required). Below is a photo of a few of the carvings I have done in such contests.

The carvings are (l. to r.) Dinosaur, boot, elephant, donkey, cat, and bear. For size reference, the bear (far right) is about 5 inches tall. The dinosaur and the donkey were bandsawn cut-outs - the others were from a block of wood.
