I'LL PAINT YOU A SONG

This page is completely dedicated to the poignant and plaintive little ditty written by Mac Davis for a forgotten movie called "Norwood" starring Glen Campbell, (who achieved stardom by being a summer replacement for the Smothers Brothers), and also featuring Joe Namath, who was a quarterback for the Crimson Tide and the Noo Yawk Jets. I suppose the makers of the movie hoped to cash in on the celebrity of the two stars, but the movie was so very bad that Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy couldn't have saved it from it ignominy.

I'll Paint You a Song is playing in the background here, and the words and music can be seen as a Noteworthy file by clicking here; if you do not have the Noteworthy plug-in and you are using Netscape 4 or IEx 5 or above you can get the plug-in to install on your computer here.

For those of you who are using an older version of IEx, or Netscape, I have placed the words of the song below, and gifs of the two pages of the sheet music can be found here.

In other words, if you are interested in this song, there will be a way for you to see and hear the words and music if you persevere.

Why does this song get its own page? It's a long story, but suffice it to say that of all the songs on this site (click here to see the rest of the 226 songs notated by sksnedegar--- or here to go to the Lucky Strike Extra page for songs notated after the 226 were set in concrete). This one's sheet music was the last to be located and received, and the quest was not in any way an easy one; it demanded Herculean effort and Job-like persistence for the marvelous staff to get this song into the fold. So without further comment, below are the words to the song.

I'm just a country boy, there's little I can offer you;
Just rhymes and melodies are all I have to give.
But I've made friends with life, and I can comfort you;
If you'll just come with me, I'll show you how to live.
I'll sing you a morning with laughing bluebirds;
I'll sing you a fairytale, full of ribbons and crepe paper words.
I'll sing you a rainbow you can keep for your own;
I'll sing you a morning, I'll paint you a song.

I look inside your eyes and find there just a little girl
Whose dreams have gone astray somewhere along the way.
But if you'll close your eyes and step inside my world,
I'll take you by the hand, we'll find a brand new day.
I'll sing you a meadow with marshmallow skies;
I'll sing you a puppy dog with a pink tongue and big loving eyes;
I'll sing you a sunset that glows all the night long;
I'll sing you a meadow, I'll paint you a song. . . .
Won't you come along?
