What is a MSDS you ask? Good
question. It is short for Material Safety Data Sheet. What do they
do? Another good question! They basically keep you in one piece as
human being. If you want to look and feel like the creature from the
black lagoon
ignore them! They are not for real men like you! If you enjoy feeling
with your fingers and seeing with your eyes
READ
THEM!
The way they work is they are a listing of the different aspects, of the chemical you are using. They list things like Chemical names, composition, hazards involved, health effects, FIRST AID, emergency procedures, how to handle the chemical, and a lot of other important info. Check them out.
Keep a list of them in your work area covering what chemicals you have. Why? You ask again? Couple of reasons.
1. They are free off of the Internet!(no excuses to not have them now!)
b. http://research.nwfsc.noaa.gov/msds.html
c. http://msds.pdc.cornell.edu/msdssrch.asp
2. The supplier of your chemicals will give them to you(by law) when you buy them.
3. They keep you focused on safety.
4. If god forbid, anyone ingests or spills the chemicals on themselves you will know how to react.(don't laugh..a guy where I work drank some MEK on accident!!!)
5. They will tell you how to deal with spills.
6. You will know the associated risks of the chemicals you are dealing with.
7. You can look like a brainiac to anyone you show your set-up to!
BE SAFE AND STAY ALIVE!!!
