Once in a land far,far away there was a gold nugget that God had written my name on.
Well ok maybe it wasnt that grand and glorious but it sure was fun looking for it! I used to dredge for gold in the Bradshaw mountains in Arizona. There is a lot of gold still up there in those hills. Lot of sore backs and numb fingers too! I finally found my nugget in a small creek in Humbolt. I could only work the creek from march to april as snow runoff fed it. During the other months it was dry. I was down about 6 feet in the hole and almost threw the nugget out!! Anything bigger then a golf ball at those depths my dredge couldnt suck up. So I was heaving lots of rock out. I picked up this dirt clod and felt it was very heavy. When I rubbed it, some gold color showed through. Yup, I almost passed out. Man you talk about a digging fool after that! But,... that was about it except for some pea sized pieces. I dredged upstream, downstream, and around stream and even dug through my waste rock pile to try and find more. That was it! No more. I feel pretty fortunate to have found that as most guys only get flakes and little pieces. Its final weight was 2.92 Troy oz. Not bad for 4 years worth of work!!!
After finding the nugget I kind of lost interest and moved on to other hobbies.
