I have
been looking for a lathe for a while now and ran
into this one in a small group of machinists here
in the Phx. Arizona area. I bought it with the
advice of some other machinist friends and promptly
started to dissect it. Hey you gotta see what makes
it work if youve never had a lathe right? Well I
must say for a 63 year old machine it is in
excellent condition. There is no wear on the
half-nuts or any of the other moving parts inside.
I am taking it totally apart and glassbeading it at
work. Then I am painting it with a grey hammered
look paint. I will be nickle plating as many of the
parts as I can. I guess next I will be
looking for a small mill. One note here is that it
is so nice to take apart a machine like this and
not find one peice of plastic on it. Man we built
them good back then! Thats probably why they are
still around.
Heres what it looked like when I first got it.
Dirty but nice.
Heres what it looked like after about 4 hours!! I
have already painted the tailstock and part of the
carriage
Ok!! Its
starting to come together. I still have to tear the
headstock down.
