Dixie Quick
Roasted Chicken & Herb Cream Sauce $12.95
Spinach Ravioli with Goranzola Basil Garlic $16 (Special)
Simply put: We thought we died and had gone to heaven. The roasted chicke was tender and moist. Heaven! The spinach ravioli was flavorful. Heaven! The service -- as gay as you'll find in Omaha. Extremely friendly. Sadly, this was only our first dinner at Dixie Quick. Until now, we had only enjoyed Sunday brunch which is also fantastic.
Le Voltaire (our most recent visit compared to one below 18 months earlier)
Bottle of suggested Rose wine: $24
French Onion Soup (bowl) $6.95
Forest Chicken $16.95
Pork Tenderloin $18.95
Creme Brulee $5.95
Overall a fantastic meal. The soup, while flavorful, well done with bread and cheese, was quite salty. The forest chicken was said to be lying on a bed of noodles. It was all mixed together in a creamy sauce. The chicken was tremendously moist and tender. The pork tenderloin was with a fantastic calamata olive & sun dried tomato gravy. The creme brulee was creme brulee.
Hector's Mexican
House Margarita $5
$9.40 Combo #6/Two Tacos, rice, beans
$11.90 Chicken Fajitas
The combo seemed too expensive for what you get, but it was still very good. The fajitas were absolutely wonderful. We shared each other's order which made a very satisfying meal. The table salsa seemed ordinary at first, but as the meal went on I couldn't get enough of it. Excellent margarita for being the house margarita.
Caniglia's Venice Inn
$26.50 8oz Filet Mignon (that day's market price)
$7 Each glass of Cabernet
One of the best meals we've had in a while. The filets were tender, juicy, cooked just right with the right amount of light seasoning. With our meal: Potatoes, small side of pasta, salad bar, cream of broccoli soup (that night's only option), and bread. The salad bar is good, but not extraordinary. The soup was fantastic. Our choice of potatoes: Hashbrowns. Service was excellent. A fine example of LOCAL traditional restaurants.
Nebraska Brewing Company
$11.99 Slow Roasted BBQ Brisket
$7.99 Reuben Sandwich
$9.99 Havarti Beef Tips/Appetizer
$4 each draw of beer
The Havarti Beef Tips was out of this world. When it arrived at the table, it seemed quite small. However, it delivered. Absolutely great. The beers were equally wonderful -- fresh, crisp taste. The reuben sandwich was quite good, although the cup of French onion soup (my choice over salad or other soups) was rather lukewarm. The soup had a sweet taste that was unexpected and not too bad. The brisket was tender but required quite a bit of work to cut off the fat. This should not have been the case. Overall, a very good visit. We will be back. Once again, it's nice to patronize a one-of-a-kind non-chain restaurant -- newly opened, November 2007.
Jazz Kitchen
$7.99 1/2 order Cajun Stir Fry Chicken
$1.79 Iced Tea
Half an order of this dish was more than enough. The cajun spices were just right -- not too much, not too little. The chicken was perfectly cut. No grissle. Very tender. The vegetables? Perfect! An absolutely wonderful meal.
Paxton Chop House
$29.95 Prix
Fixe
Menu Selections
The only way we can afford to dine at this LOCAL establishment is to arrive Sunday night for its Prix Fixe Menu. We had an 8oz filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagas, caesar salad, and chocolate truffle. Every single item was about the best we have ever had, hands down. Amazing service (the water boy even folded my boyfriend's napkin while he was in the men's room). Great selection of wine. We're definitely coming back... on a Sunday.
Los Portales
$4.99 Huaraches
$1.50 Taco
$1.50 Coke in an actual glass bottle, the way God meant it to be
I ordered the extra taco, thinking the huaraches wouldn't be enough. I was wrong! The huaraches was a tortilla served with generous & delicious portion of beef, vegetables, grated cheese, and sour cream. I walked away after my first visit feeling good about this place. I took my boyfriend the next night after the bar -- and left happy again. Very authentic.
Le Voltaire
$ 4.95 French Onion Soup bowl
$16.95 Beef Burgundy Stew
$26.00 Duck Breast
$30.00 French Pinot Noir bottle
$ 6.95 Dark Chocolate Cake
$ 6.95 Passion Fruit Mousse
$ 2.25 Coffee
We went all-out for a birthday dinner. The french onion soup: absolutely fab. Beef burgundy stew, while not picturing what I planned to get, was incredibly tasty. We were there early, so they had limited servings of the duck. The waitress said it tasted like filet mignon, and it did! Not greasy at all, not gamy, though a little tough. The desserts were divine, ESPECIALLY the passion fruit.
Ted's Montana Grill
7 oz. Beef Filet $17.99
7 oz. Bison Filet $23.99
Bogle Pitite Sirah Wine $6/glass
After hearing conflicting reviews of Ted's (the negatives were mostly about pricing), we decided to finally check it out. We were pleasantly surprised. You're served a handful of complimentary pickles to start your stay. They're good. The bison filet was just as good as the beef. It was difficult to tell the diference. It's healthier too. Our meal came with a wonderful salad & two side dishes. Aunt Fannie's squash casserole was divine.
Texas Roadhouse Steakhouse
6 oz. Filet $13.99
Killer Ribs Appetizer $6.99
Sweet Tea $1.99
Fat Tire Beer $4.99
The filets were very tender & had a perfect amount of spices added. (No need for steak sauce, which is always a good barometer!) You get two sides. We both opted for Caesar salad which appeared to have too much dressing mixed in, but it was great! One of us opted for the "mashed potato" option which was rather lame -- it was literally a potato & mashed. No spices, no gravy, no nothing. The killer ribs appetizer was very impressive. Next time, I might get ribs as an entree.
Johnny's Italian Steakhouse
(Village Pointe, 168th & Dodge)
Petite 6 oz Filet $17
Filet Trio $22
Asparagus $2 each
Walnut Cabaret $19
The filet trio is a signature item at Johnny's. It features three small filets which are topped with three different crusts. Very unique & good. The filets were wonderfully tender & juicy. Instead of potatoes on the side, we went with a side of asparagus but we were not informed of the additional $2 charge. Service was above average but not excellent.
La Casa Pizzaria
$11.79 10"x13" Pepperoni Pizza with "both cheese" topping
Side Salad $2.49 each
Our first time here and we were delighted. The pizza was very homestyle (not perfect). Thin crust. Salad dressing (for the life of me, I cannot remember the name) was excellent. Service with Angela was outstanding.
Howard's Mexican
$3.25 Margarita
$5.50 Two beef enchiladas, beans, rice
$3.50 Beef burrito
The margaritas were surprisingly good despite their bland/watery appearance. The meal was considerably great, considering the very affordable prices & speed of service. We'll definitely go back.
Lo Sole Mio
$15.95 Marsala Veal
$14.95 Pasta Reggio
$ 3.95 7-Layer Cake
$ 7.50 3 Glasses/House Wine
I'll ignore the fact that we only counted six layers on that cake. We had only two glasses of wine (well, we did pour to the rim). This restaurant has a great reputation, deservedly so. You'll definitely ask for a box to wrap up the leftovers.
