Kayak/Canoe

In September 2008, the Omaha Hiking Club went on its first overnight camping trip to Valentine, Nebraska. Members canoed and kayaked on the Niobrara River. The group visited Smith Falls and spent the night camping. Graham Canoe Outfitter provided the canoes, kayaks, tents and fabulous food. A good time was had by all and the trip will be scheduled again next September. Hope to see you!

Niobrara Kayak Adventure 2009
REGISTRATION CLOSED

In the past, our bike hikes were almost exclusively trail rides (not road rides), and are intended more for enjoying the surroundings than achieving mileage or speed goals. Typical bike rides are the Wabash Trace, Steamboat Trace, and Chalco Hills Recreation Area.

Snow Shoe/Cross Country Ski Events

Snow Shoe or Cross Country Ski outings are scheduled when there is adequate snow fall. These events have been scheduled at Neale Woods and Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge. These special winter activities are not part of the regular monthly email activity newsletter and are best accessed by dialing the Hike Line at 384-BOOT (2668) . Members attending these events are expected to bring their own gear and be adequately dressed to weather the elements.

Of Other Interest

During the winter of 2008, events were scheduled to keep the club members active. These events included ice skating and scuba diving.

During the summer of 2009, Omaha Hiking Club Members took a field trip to Ashfall Fossil Beds.
