Hitchcock Nature Center
Hike Leader: Mike
Hitchcock Nature Center contains some of the largest remaining prairie remnants
in Iowa and provides refuge for plants and animals found nowhere else in the
state. We will meet in the parking lot at the Loess Hills Lodge. We
will hike both prairie and woodland dirt packed trails with numerous hills. The
hike will be between 4 and 5 miles at a moderate pace. Please dress for variable
autumn weather, bring water and a light snack to replace lost energy if needed.
Hiking poles, or a hiking stick are recommended but neither are necessary for
you to enjoy this hike.
Take I-680 or I-29 to Crescent Iowa. Then take Hwy 183 north approximately 5
miles, and follow the signs to Hitchcock Nature Center. Signs in the park
will direct you to the lodge.
Admission is $2 per car. Restrooms are available at the entrance, and the
restrooms at Loess Hills Lodge will be open until 5pm.
