This is a working list of websites dealing with Japanese Americans. If you know of any other links that might be of interest, or if any of the links below do not work, please let me know.

National Organization

Japanese American Citizens League "While the JACL's founding mission was focused on protecting the civil rights of Americans of Japanese ancestry, today we are committed to protecting the rights of all segments of the Asian Pacific American community."

National Japanese American Historical Society "The National Japanese American Historical Society (NJAHS), founded in 1980, incorporated in 1981 is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, authentic interpretation, and sharing of historical information of the Japanese American experience for the diverse broader national community."

Japanese American National Museum "Vision Statement: To transform lives and strengthen community through the exploration of diverse histories, arts and cultures. Mission Statement: To promote understanding and appreciation of America’s ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the Japanese American experience."

International Nikkei Research Project "To increase and share the knowledge of Nikkei cultures and societies in order to foster greater linkages and cross-cultural understanding between the United States, Japan, and other nations with a Nikkei population."

The Japanese American Network "The Japanese American Network (JA*Net) is a partnership of Japanese American organizations based in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. A goal of this partnership is to encourage the use of the Internet and interactive communications technologies to exchange information about Japanese Americans -- art, culture, community, history, news, events, social services, and public policy issues. The website is a volunteer project and depends on community participation and contributions."

Regional Organizations

Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, Los Angeles "The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC) is dedicated topresenting, perpetuating, transmitting and promoting Japanese and Japanese American art and culture to diverse audiences and to providing a center to enhance community programs."

Little Tokyo Service Center, Los Angeles "For 23 years, the Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) has been an important resource for the residents of a diverse downtown community. Founded in 1979, LTSC is a nonprofit charitable organization serving people in need, especially those facing language or cultural gaps, financial need, or physical disabilities."

Nikkei Federation "Through this website and other educational and community development programs, the Nikkei Federation fosters dialogue in the Japanese American community -- in all its diversity -- and promotes information regarding Japanese American cultural programs and services throughout the greater Southern California area."

Nikkei Youth Organization

Japanese Canadian National Museum "To provide information about the Japanese Canadian National Museum (JCNM), its programs and activities, To provide a resource for teachers, students and anyone interested in Japanese Canadian history, To provide information about how you can become a part of the JCNM community by joining, volunteering and donating, To provide information to help you research your family history, To nurture the sense of community among Japanese Canadians, To share the Japanese Canadian experience with all Canadians, and to encourage their involvement in the Museum, its programs and its activities."

Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Northern California "The JCCCNC strives to meet the evolving needs of the Japanese American community through offering programs, affordable services and facility usage. The goals are: To manage and maintain a multi-service community center which is owned and operated by the Japanese American community; To organize and provide educational, cultural, recreational and social programs that meet the growing needs, interests and concerns of the community. To preserve and promote the Japanese American cultural and historical heritage; To enhance understanding and appreciation among the Japanese American community, American public and people of Japan; To provide administration and program space for non-profit organizations in the community."

Historical Organizations

Japanese American Relocation Digital Archive "The Japanese American Relocation Digital Archive (JARDA) will serve as a gateway to the archival and manuscript holdings of numerous California archives and museums featuring online finding aids, digital images, electronic texts and oral histories."

Japanese American History Archives "The Japanese American History Archives is an extensive, growing collection of books, periodicals, documents, maps, photographs, art and film relating to the Japanese experience in the United States from the mid-1800s, when the first Japanese pioneers set foot on American soil, to the present."

Densho: The Japanese Anerican Legacy Project "Densho is a Japanese term meaning "to pass on to the next generation," or to leave a legacy. The legacy we offer is an American story with ongoing relevance: during World War II, the United States government incarcerated innocent people solely because of their ancestry."

Japanese American War Veterans "The Japanese American men and women who served in the various branches of the armed services throughout the world invite you to help perpetuate the history and the memory of the young japanese americans who loyally served our country and gave their lives for the future betterment of Japanese Americans everywhere."

Japanese-American Veterans' Association "This is an umbrella website representing a number of Japanese American Veterans' organizations throughout the United States. The site has its origins in the telling of the patriotic Nisei experience during WWII when American citizens of Japanese ancestry were denied some of the most basic civil rights. On these pages you will find compelling stories of their WWII experience in the European, African, and Pacific theaters as well as on the Homefront. You can find links to the veterans groups and many sites related to their experience."
